Oh, fruit dumplings. Yeah, dumpling yeast dough filled with fruit, modelled into little balls,, boiled and then with curd, sugar and melted butter (or poppy seeds or any other sweet stuff you can sprinkle on top you like) on top of it.

Or there can be savory variant with bacon and sauerkraut most often but the pictures are with sweet one.

There is also version called “Tvarohové knedlíky” which i liked better. Its basically same recipe, but the dough is made with quark creme.

It is quite a common food in the Czech Republic. Filled fruit dumplings – Plněné knedlíky or Ovocné knedlíky. They have them in some more traditional restaurants and often you can get them in the mountains – filled with blueberries. It is also a staple of school canteens on Fridays. I love them – once in a while.

You can get a some varieties – with apricots, strawberries, plums, blueberries and everyone serves them with a bit of a different topping – sugar and melted butter are a must and then you can add curd, creme fraiche, gingerbread flakes, poppyseeds, cocoa powder. Just writing it I think about my grandmother as this is typical grandmother food.
