Wait, so her party will vote in favour in the vote of confidence?

I’m sure that’ll make the NUPES voters happy…

I cannot say I agree with Macron on everything but damn, that man knows how to do politics.

Ngl NPF looks spineless and weak after this move by Macron, the leftist parties get tossed around like a toy by centrists.

Taming both the far-right and far-left is hilarious.

She won’t, because we’re talking about a man the regular right-wing deemed “too right-wing” in their 2021 primaries. A man who consistently voted against gay rights (starting in the 1980’s where he voted for homosexuality to remain a crime). A Reaganomics fanatic Jean Marie le Pen would have applauded with glee.

For those still believing Macron is some kind of genius: he just effectively gave the government to the far-right. As of now, Le Pen is holding the minority government hostage: “you do as I want or else you’re fired”.

The true genius move would have been to give the government to the left then let the left ruin itself in an impossible coalition. But it would have meant losing a pawn, for Macron : the retirement reform. There wouldn’t have been any motion of censure from Le Pen **before** the left cancel the reform. Otherwise Le Pen would have been naked, showing her true anti-worker colors to the voters.

This is Zeno’s paradox at play. From the point of view of a leftist voter, first you vote Chirac against Le Pen (2002) because “that’s only 50% of the distance to the far-right”; then Sarkozy, only 75% of the distance to the far right; then etc… Then we got Darmanin as minister of the interior, only 87,5% far right… Then today we have Barnier as PM, a man who is “only 93,75% the same” as Le Pen. Macron’s conclusion: “the arrow will never reach the far-right”. My own conclusion as a voter: playing ball with Macron or any other centrists is over. Can’t play ball with someone betraying your good will at every turn. Can’t trust pyromaniacs.

    6. Of course she will. She made a “secret” arrangement with Macron.

German here, and with some knowledge of history. The fascists never got a majority in an election. All they had to do was to convince the conservatives that Fascism is a smaller evil compared to worker’s rights.

Seems the fascists are the only ones who actually have learnt from history.

Barnier is very RN compatible already have voted against lgbtq law adaptation and same for immigration on top of being pro business.

Probably only right and not hard right because it was not the best choice when he came up to politic (like a lot of right wing guys).

The man who wanted to keep homosexuality as a crime is now a prime minister.

      > France’s Le Pen says she will let new Prime Minister Barnier do his job

And isn’t that ever gracious of her.

So many people here who think that Macron is a genius is shocking to see. It is Le Pens goverment now. She decides which laws will be passed and she decides when Barniers time as PM ends. She has all the cards in her hands, with a Prime Minister who agrees with the far right on over 90% of their political views. In the mean time he killed the republican front. I dont see how any left wing voter will trust the centrists again unless the centrists who dissaprove the goverment distance themselfes from Macron in the near future.

During the second round of the election, there were a lot of rumors that Attal forced Macron to work with the left, He was the first one who suggested to pull out candidates, so maybe he is able to build back some trust.

But i want to thank Macron for one thing. He united the NFP for 2027. There is no way PS or other smaller parties are going to leave the alliance now.
