Organizers cited “significant threats to festival operations and public safety” as the reason for the cancellation but also stated they “support civil discourse about and through films, including differences of opinion.”

The respectful public demonstration is till happening as planned on Fri,at Scotiabank Theatre, Toronto. Notice how TIFF and the Russian-Canadian Director has tried to make themselves as the victims in all of this citing threats and public safety. Typical Russian propaganda, Russians are the victims in Ukraine and apparently in Canada. With Ukrainian and Ukrainian-Canadians as the aggressors in both countries. Have no doubt, TIFF will attempt to air this at a later date.

I have been waiting for good news like this. Congratulations to everyone involved, especially the peaceful protesters!

I wish the organizers had voluntarily pulled the film, but suspension due to threats of violence is the wrong reason, and probably worse for Ukraine than it is for Russia; especially for Ukrainians living in Toronto.

Pulling the film, especially under these conditions, will only draw more attention and capture a wider audience. The internet is already full of Russian propaganda. This film would’ve been ignored if detractors hadn’t given it so much free publicity.

They are suspending the screening because the film is by all accounts garbage.

A film about loyal soldiers in an invading army tasked with destruction, depicting how they are the real victims in all this?

Come on, that doesn’t even pretend to hold up.

There are so many documentaries that could be made about Russian soldiers. Russian POWs who refuse to be repatriated — gee I wonder why? Soldiers in the Free Legion fighting under the white-blue-white flag — why? Russian soldiers who want to disclose Russian war crimes against Ukraine. So many more. A filmmaker could find so many ways to meet the documentarian’s calling to “afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted.”

And yet this filmmaker chose to make *that* documentary?

Their next film idea should be to interview WW2 concentration camp survivors who had surprisingly nice experiences of the camp, and Gulag Parks, showing people on working holidays with nice amenities.

Took them long enough…let’s fuck up our reputation and look like a Kremlin mouthpiece, then *not* play the film!

If they were actually threatened, that’s wrong. Either way, they should never screen it and no part of the civilized world should associate with RT.
