I understand the Chech and the German claims. But Belarusian, Lithuanian and Ukrainian cities really smoked something strong to claim the geographical midpoint of Europe.

    2. Fun Fact: Kleinmaischeid used to be the geographical midpoint of the European Union until the 2007 addition of Bulgaria and Romania.

Torun is correct as far as the east/west axis is concerned.

Draw a circle with all this “midpoints” inside and calculate centre. This is true midpoint.

It’s Frankfurt am Main, because a very wise merchant of little plastic bricks says so.

I’m from Toruń and didn’t know about these claims. Midpoint or not, we have the best gingerbread in the world.

    7. This is hilarious.
Literally every country I used to live in claimed it was the center of Europe

Toruń doesn’t claim to be the geographical midpoint of Europe.

The geographical midpoint of Europe has been debated due to different definitions of Europe’s boundaries, but several locations claim this title based on various measurements:

      1. **Polotsk, Belarus** – Recognized by some researchers, especially from Soviet times, as the midpoint.
      2. **Suchowola, Poland** – Often cited as one of the midpoints of Europe based on older calculations.
      3. **Dilove, Ukraine** – This location has a monument marking it as the geographic center of Europe, calculated by Austro-Hungarian geographers in 1887.
      4. **Kremnické Bane, Slovakia** – Another town that claims to be the midpoint of Europe.
      5. **Girija, Lithuania** – In 1989, the French National Geographic Institute identified this village near Vilnius as the geographical center of Europe.

The exact location depends on how Europe’s borders are defined and measured, particularly in the east. The
here’s no defined “end” to the EU unless we refer to specific borders, political exits like Brexit, or a speculative future event.

      But it’s Lisbon.

I guess they do not have to claim for somethign that is obviously already there.

Oh , Saaremaa city , learn something new every day

    12. Internal_Sun_9632 on

I always guessed it was Prague but it’s kinda a meaningless title in any case.

Well, where are located: Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia?
How much Russia is located in Europe, until Urals mountains?

Georgia is EU candidate. This map is bad..

Toruń? First time I hear this one.

Btw, central point in Kleinmaischeid would make sense only, if Europe actually ended on Belarusian-russian border 😉

    15. Now let’s find the place with minimum total distance to all of them. Poland has a chance.

    16. SixSevenEmpire on

Every body know the real geography midpoint of Europe is Strossburi

    17. Based on this pissed around circle it should be a bit more south of Poland.

    18. Megatron3600 on

The official GEOGRAPHICAL center of EUROPE, recognised internationally, is in Vilnius, Lithuania.

    19. This is incomplete, Landskrona in southern Sweden also claims to be the geographical mid point of Europe.

    20. LiveSir2395 on

Due to brexit the geographic center has moved farther East.

    21. To be fair, Polish cities are in the centre of all those claiming to be the center. Doesnt that mean they’re winning?

    22. swiftpwns on

For me it’s definetly Vienna, if you’ve ever been there you will know what I’m talking about, you will meet every kind of european there. It also happens to be geographically pretty much in the centre, dividing south/north aswell as east/west and is right near the iron curtain.

    23. MrPrevedmedved on

Yay, Polotsk mentioned on Reddit! Yes, there is Center of Europe monument, can confirm.
