Germany should abolish the constitutional right to asylum as it will allow the country [to set quotas on refugees](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/09/10/mass-migration-is-tearing-the-eu-to-pieces/), the interior minister of the eastern state of Brandenburg has said, in an apparent bid to appease the hard-Right.
Michael Stübgen, a member of the centre-right CDU, said [the law should be amended](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/09/07/leipzig-kabul-afghan-refugees-kohl-spd-cdu-afd-tough-talk/) as Germany already subscribes to the Geneva Convention on refugees, making it redundant.
“The individual right to asylum is no longer necessary in the Basic Law [German constitution] because we already grant protection to people who are persecuted under the rules of the Geneva Refugee Convention,” he said. “That is why I am in favour of anchoring the Geneva Refugee Convention as an institutional guarantee in the Basic Law.”
He added that the reform would allow Germany to introduce its own quota system for refugees. “We will then decide who comes into our country. Germany’s mainstream parties are expected to be roundly defeated in this weekend’s Brandenburg state elections, where the hard-Right AfD party is projected to take nearly 30 per cent of the vote.

Or change it drastically. It was supposed to be helping dissidents or people actively running away from a regime, trying to murder them. But currently it is used as a way of economic immigrаtion and other types of scams. Member how a Yazidi girl – an actual refugee met her ISIS captor at a german street? There is need for fundamental change.
There is article 1 which this right derives from and which is immutable.
Sure, one can change asylum policy, no, the absence of this constitutional right still does not allow you to treat people horrible or violate their rights or the rule of law. That is why the processes are so slow and difficult to codify.
Interior minister of one of 16 federal states within germany, most people couldnt even tell you who he was if you only told them his name. Not making any judgement on what was said, just think the title of the post is misleading
This was suggested by the interior minister of the federal state Brandenburg, not by the German interior minister.
It should abolish them.
We need 50% of China to apply for asylum in Germany, maybe then it will become clear that quotas are necessary and maybe also that Germany can’t take unlimited numbers of people. Come on Chinese friends, we don’t even need 700 million of you, if say 50 million were to apply and get citizenships, you’ll win elections, can change the official language to Chinese as well as script and start the process to join China.
Asylum seekers are a threat to western values at this point. No amount of integration efforts will save Germany now. You’ve let too many people in. What a lot of people don’t realize is that a lot of these people don’t wish to integrate, they’re much happier forming their own bubble communities speaking their own language.
Missleading Headline
Suella braverman mentioned in a speech last year the un charter of refugees should be amended. Now we can do a knee jerk reaction and accuse them of being racist, but that charter came after WW2 and addressed the issues we faced after we realised what happen in that war. Now things have changed. Europeans feel the pressure. Bad actors are taking advantage (criminals and countries/dictators) so all these rules and treaties need updating into current situations. I.e. climate refugees, what status if any should we give them? Refugees used as pawns(africans send by belarus into poland). Refugees fleeing (sanctioned) terror aka palestinians. And so on.
