Probably a bigger question to be asked about the reason these details are leaked in the run up to the Budget. Lots of reporters cozying up to politicians in the hope of an exclusive news story and then won’t criticise them not doing their job efficiently
It is neither a fair nor equitable manner to distribute help, it’s done regardless of usage, household size, household wealth.

I would prefer if the money was invested into the grid so they can speed up the connection of new renewable energy projects and actually start bringing prices down.
Prices have at least come down a fair bit so any future credits should be means tested.
Just keep throwing taxes that could be used for something else at it but whatever you do don’t tackle the energy firms gouging us

We’ve let the energy sector run riot for a few years now. Mainly because they’re our mates and we love their cash.
To acknowledge this however, we’re going to use your money to pay your ridiculous bills to make it look like we’re helping. But only a small percentage of those bills. Let’s not go mad now.

I get this credit and I don’t even turn the gas on. If I’m cold I’ll throw an extra layer of clothes on because it’s Ireland not Antarctica. Why do we act like the country will freeze to death if we can’t heat our entire homes?

Can we stop giving hand outs and start tackling the price gouging?? That €250.00 goes straight to the energy companies and keeps prices inflated.
This is just another hand out to energy companies to let them keep energy prices high without any sort of competition.
What happened to the windfall tax on the greedy bastards after they have been gouging the hole out of us the last 4 years.
This is irresponsible from the Government.
Energia alone made 270m profit after tax last year. That’s 6% on revenue. A massive amout in both. This is a give away to energy companies, no question.
Why can’t they means test this stuff at the very least??? Shit like this is why inflation is so high. I don’t need a €250 energy credit, give more to the people who actually need it.
