I’ve just had a baby and whilst I might be able to get a few bits and pieces, 560e is not that beneficial. This money could be better spent.
How many seats do ye reckon the greens will get next time round?

I’m not sure this is a good use of money, mos people buy the items for the baby months in advance, not when the baby is born
If it’s a second baby etc they will have major furniture bought

Nonononono! Bad Greens! The priority is to make sure the very wealthy can pass on their ill gotten gains to their children without paying a cent of tax.

I agree with Paschal on this.
My partner gave birth this year and we are lucky enough to be in a position that €560 wouldn’t have made the slightest bit of difference to us. There is absolutely no need to a cash payment to people in our position.
Cash payments are a terrible use of funding too and should be put into providing services that will benefit new parents.
I noticed this punch & judy show in other headlines over the last couple days … Various ministers and political entities being shown by the media to be ‘fighting’ for the inclusion of this or that payment.
Because it isn’t enough that a payment is there, or expense cut etc, not enough political capital in that. They have to be shown to have fought for it.
Same goes for the absence of such things, it has to be shown that they fought for it regardless.
Its a really good idea. When our kid was born in France we got that and it felt so nice at that time of high stress – almost like a welcome present. Actual cost is almost nothing.
