    1. What type of relationship has the highest incidence of domestic violence?

    2. Willing-Departure115 on

More women have the shit kicked out of them or are murdered by men they know than by randomers on the street, and certainly than by other women 🤷‍♂️ Teaching lads to be respectful and also to call out other lads when they’re being abusive to women, and not to get into it like a group of hyenas, is no bad thing.

Think there’s alot more to look at than the bystander affect, think social media has a way bigger effect on men and women. Things like tinder give women alot of options, men don’t need to provide just a paycheck anymore. They need to be actual competent humans and emotionally available. Women have perfectly adjusted to traditional masculine roles, while men seem terrified of taking up traditional feminine roles.

It talks a lot about bystanders not intervening but I have never heard people standing by and allowing wife beating to occur.

Also links in nasty remarks, but verbal abuse is just as likely to be committed by a woman as a man.

    5. “If you get to the point where… it becomes obvious that it’s socially unacceptable for men and young men to talk negatively about women, then we’ll have achieved a place where we’ll have significant reductions in sexual assault, sexual harassment [and] domestic violence.”

Ah gave a me a good laugh at least. And he even managed to mention Pelicot.

Great headline, Newstalk dads love getting hot and bothered with this kinda stuff.

    7. Aware_Ad9809 on

Newstalk is painful, having to listen to some of the presenters. One was going on about water charges 😕 but everyone that she had on the phone was not on her side didn’t stop the gual from banging on about it. Treats the raido like her personal mouthpiece

If I see a woman being verbally harassed by a group of lads tbh I’m not intervening. I’ll call the guards or maybe try and get a larger group of men together to scare them off but by intervening I’m putting myself in even higher levels of danger than she was

I think that’s exactly the right age to be teaching young people about this. It’s a good procedure.

      >”It’s changing the social norms that accept misogyny and derisive and negative comments and thoughts and beliefs about women and girls that are that is still extremely common in our societies,” he said

My only issue is that the focus seems to be disproportionately on boys. In one sense it’s fair enough, because most assaults are by men and boys. However, let’s not forget that women and girls do this too. When I was 19 / 20 I worked in a nightclub collecting glasses and taking orders, and I lost count of the number of times I was groped by drunk women. It was mainly through clothes, but on one occasion I had both arms full of glasses and a woman slid her hand inside the front of my pants for quite a long time while her friends laughed.

Like I say, it’s a lesser issue than male violence against women, but it still happens and shouldn’t be accepted

“Ms Pelicot (71) was drugged by her now ex-husband over the course of a decade so that she could be raped by dozens of men while unconscious.

“Look at the mass rape case in France – we have we have dozens of men who have been arrested and have been charged with sexually assaulting this [woman],” he said.

“Those men were just all like average men from the community, many of them married with children, and they were engaged in this behaviour.

“So, the idea that somehow we can just isolate the problem of domestic abuse in Ireland or sexual assault to individual, crazy men or deeply damaged men, as opposed to thinking about the norms that underlie the abuse – that’s naive,” he added.”

These are examples of deeply damaged rapist deviants.
An evil man drugged his wife and invited other evil men around to rape his wife.
Do people think “lad banter” leads to this?
This is dangerous sexual deviants raping a women, being married with kids doesn’t mean they are “average men”.

Don’t understand how men are so thin skinned about this stuff. If you’re not a violent prick then you don’t need to worry or defend yourself?

      >”Those crimes and those abuses don’t come out of nowhere.
      >
      >They’re not just individual psychopathy or sociopathy, there’s a there’s a pyramid.
      >
      >”The tip of the pyramid is the incident of abuse nut the base of the pyramid is a set of attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that create the cultural context and foundation.”

This article is just so badly written.

Spelling mistakes, incomplete quotation marks and I’m guessing doubling up of words.

And I thought it might have been noticed and corrected by now.

I’m sure this comment thread will be super civil and not a bloodbath. *grabs popcorn*

A woman may be more likely to be a victim of domestic violence, but a significant percentage of men are victims too.  These are lessons that should apply to *everyone* – it’s not OK for men to hit their partners but it’s not OK for women either

    15. vinceswish on

We are in such a weird spot. Sexism doesn’t really apply for a man apparently, it’s even encouraged. Doesn’t matter what kind of a person you’re, males are bad but at the same time if I want all rapists and murderers root in jail, I’m a bad person because ”human rights”?

    16. ZenBreaking on

Needs to be done to combat the Andrew Tate type brainrot they’re seeing all over their social media at that early age where they can’t understand the issue with it

    17. Tactical_Laser_Bream on

What’s the worst that could happen? Less assault and abuse?

      The comments here are wild.

    18. AnT-aingealDhorcha40 on

Not about teaching all genders to show basic respect and equal value in relationships. I know people who are in coercive and mentally abusive relationships and guess what gender the victims are?

      But yeah male=monster.

Isnt it a parents job to teach their boys to be gentlemen?
