I’m on a provisional since 2007. It’s great.
Is there any infrastructure or essential service in this country that is not overburdened or under strain at this stage?

Such time wasters, it’s illegal to drive on a provisional alone and they have to have booked the test to apply for subsequent permits.
What else is there to do to deal with it? Chop their hands off so they can’t drive?
Isn’t it crazy that the same people in government that are responsible for the absolute shambles this country has turned into are confident they will be re elected in the next election. To be honest we get what we deserve.
That’s how dysfunctional state looks like. Housing, hate speech, L plates, ambulance service, hospitals including children’s hospital, navy, guards, ya name it 🤔
A big part of this is age. I’m 37 and only started driving two years ago. I am waiting on my test and will occasionally go out on my own. Nothing major though just to a football match if none of my full licensed drivers can go. In fairness I’m waiting 5 months at this stage for a test and still doing a lesson every second week and the instructor says I should pass the first time.
I Was stopped at a checkpoint a few weeks ago and basically the cop said “You don’t look old enough to have a learner driver in the household”, I laughed and said ah sure there was a lack of contraceptives during the Celtic tiger, he laughed and let me through.
A lot of those on multiple provincials are older people and the Guards don’t have the time to check every single licence at a check point.
It should be cracked down on and more testers should be made available. It’s ridiculous the wait times for tests.
Also remember the EDT and instructors don’t teach you how to drive, they teach you how to pass a test and you really start learning to drive when you go out on your own once you’ve passed
what exactly is the loophole if your pulled over by the guards as a leaner .do they not just deal with you then ?

If the system is keeping forcefully maintaining the exploit in place, then ofc that everyone should exploit it.
We have a problem, but we’re not going to do anything about that problem because we’re afraid it’ll make it worse, so we’ll just leave it as is and hope for the best. 🤦♂️
I’m on this. Haven’t driven in 3 years, on my 5th or 6th permit, I pay for insurance as a named driver but I don’t drive at all. Started lessons again last week. I find driving uncomfortable

holy shit! At what point do we say “maybe driving isn’t for you.”?
I know of a woman who has had her provisional license for around 25 years and never bothered to go for her full. Her provisional license has expired around 12 years ago too. She’s been with the same insurance company for probably 15 years and now can’t change because of her license expiring years ago and if she wanted to switch she’d have to send in her license details. I remember asking her is she not worried about getting stopped or being in an accident and she said no not at all sure she only drives up town to the shops and home. Madness I think.
Been waiting for a test since June. My estimated date is mid October.
The national pass rate in 2022 was 53%. So it’s as good as a coin toss if ill be doing it again or not.
There’s lots of learner-drivers driving around on their own. What happens if they crash? Are they covered by their insurance? Are they charged with any serious offense?
Surely if someone has their L plates for 10 years they’re either taking the piss or have a disability that’s stopped them from passing their tests and shouldn’t be driving. Don’t tell me waiting times have gotten that bad?
I’ve been on the waitlist for 6 months now. I drive the whole time out of necessity. I don’t really have an option NOT too because outside of a city, public transport is absolute shite
If anything, we should be mandating retests for everyone every ten years.
