This is the second time they’ve submitted retention planning along with demolishing part of the house.
The previous one was refused.
Edit: Had a look at the retention application …..it was submitted on 7th Oct and the decision is due on 1st Dec.
This is the one house that deserved to be built out of solid pyrite.
No, they abused the system and should experience the full consequences of their actions.
In general I fucking despise Irish planning laws, if it’s your own land, you’re not causing any danger to the surrounding environment then leave them at it. In the middle of a fucking housing crisis and we have government departments pissing away money to get people to demolish houses.
Rules for thee but not for me.
This should not be taking 16 years.
Here we go again, they’ve been abusing a poor planning system for years, and here’s another futile attempt to drag it out again. They’ve been at it for 15 years+.
They’ve tried every trick in the book (different names, different variations of their address etc..) – every rejection is met with a fresh application with some variance, to which there’s an appeal and the whole things cycles back around.
I don’t know what they were thinking in the first place, planning was denied – so they went ahead and built not 1, but 2 houses – 1 of which is almost 600 sq m.
They suggested demolishing 267sqm of the house. How fucking big is it??
That’s not a house that’s a compound
Ah I remember this being referred to as the “mini mansion”
Why make them homeless? Would it not have passed planning? Could they get a a substantial fine? What does demolishing it achieve?
They should demolish part of it. And then demolish the rest of it.
Beyond doing it with planning permission what’s the problem with the house. I looked online but there doesn’t seem to be much info on that.
What is actually wrong with the house, looks very normal?
They have already submitted an application which proposed partial demolition – and this was refused. As others have said, they have tried every trick in the book to keep their house, including submitting numerous planning applications.
This latest attempt should be refused too (and almost certainly will be). They knew what they were doing – no sympathy.
How much will this have cost them in terms of legal bills?
Their best option at this point is to sell tickets to the demolition.
People should build without planning permission. Too late in the day to continue allowing local councils to hold the country ransom.
If they weren’t loaded everyone would 100% be on their side.
No time for their bullshit but on the flip side the planning system in this country is complete and utter bollox run by idiots
Nice house. Shame it’s going to get a demolishing job. Could go to the orphans or a good cause 😑
The architect or engineer involved in the construction obviously could not certify that it complied with planning. They would only be able to certify that it complied with building regs.
It’s not the contractors’ responsibility to inspect or comply with planning or to ensure that there is planning though many would. Normally they will build as per drawings and instructions issued by the client or architect.
The owners must have had lots of € as a bank should have looked for a copy of planning as part of a loan documentation
I’d nearly rent a 14 ton at my own expense and demolish it if the CC let me.
Bit of end of quarter office aggression to take out.
Obviously, this lovely couple would be outside the property while this happened.
Everyone should follow the law or whatever, but I think that the state should learn to mind its own business
Looks tiny, should add at least 300sqm
This thread is gas, literal adults having a tantrum over what someone else has built on their own land. The fact that you need permission to build on you’re own land in the first place is fucking madness
Surely their legal costs have far exceeded the cost of building this McMansion. It’s supreme levels of stupidity
There comes a time when the authorities just need to go in and knock it down. Send them a bill after the fact. Won’t be long until people follow planning rules then.
They should be allowed keep the house. It wasn’t yesterday this happened. Time to move on and leave this couple alone. Anyone who actually cares about this and agrees with a fine home being demolished when it isn’t hurting anyone needs therapy
