What was the point of having a joint justice committee, a citizens assembly and subsequent Oireachtas Committee if simon harris’ (uneducated) personal opinion is going to outweigh the copious amounts of evidence

It’s amazing how difficult something so simple is, it is clearly obvious to me the legal profession and gardai are making way too much money from having it illegal rather than legalizing it. It’s a gravy train.

His “health led approach” has had us move into first place for drug related deaths in Europe. ICGP’s already recommended decriminalisation in their submission to the Drugs Comittee 2024.
Gardaí don’t want to lose their stop and search powers under drugs act they said it out loud at the CA.
As for “normalisation of drugs” there’s many a photo of Simon and other FG’ers holding pints in their hands for the photo op…….

Because minor drug convictions for small amounts of weed are easy wins for the guards while ruining the lives of working people and empowering gangs/drug dealers that the guards can’t/won’t arrest. FF or FG or any other party won’t do anything about or archaic drug laws

The reason isn’t public health. They don’t want people growing it and making money. The Irish political classes want some big American firm to step in and take control of it.
I don’t understand FF and FG on this. I get their voter base is old people who view drugs as the devil. But they are struggling to bring in young voters. They can’t build enough houses in 4 years. The easiest thing to attract young people is actually to do the easy changes that would allow us all to have a bit of craic.
Decriminalise drug use, extend nightclub opening hours, consider removing MUPs. Those are 3 easy wins for the government and actually might lead to a younger voting base!
An all out ban on cigarettes in public places and then the banning of single use vapes💨 and then decriminalising cannabis, did people really think cannabis was actually going to be given the go ahead?
People talking about decriminalising cannabis but banning vape flavours for grown adults? I don’t understand the priorities. I’m all for banning disposable vapes and packaging etc but this vape flavour business is ridiculous.
Simon is the best head prefect and this would never happen on his watch. It’s a step too far for FG members after same sex marriage and the repealing of the 8th amendment. Grassroot FG members would never agree to decriminalisation or legalisation
