Non uso più Facebook, letteralmente una volta ogni pochi mesi apro l’app. Ho cliccato oggi per puro caso e ho visto quello che pensavo fosse un post devastante di qualcuno che perde il proprio partner. Più leggevo e più diventava chiaro che si trattava di un’aggiunta per un’app di gioco d’azzardo per cercare di indurre le persone a investire tutti i loro soldi in essa con commenti che rispondevano dicendo che avevano anche vinto un sacco mostrando orologi e borse firmate ecc.
Normalmente è facile vedere un’aggiunta o un falso, ma questo account è stato creato 3 settimane fa, ha pubblicato alcune foto di questa famiglia e ha sponsorizzato questo post affinché venga visualizzato nei feed. Questo deve essere illegale, per pensare che in questo periodo dell’anno le persone sono disperate e potrebbero essere influenzate da questo a buttare tutti i loro soldi in un’app di gioco d’azzardo e perdere tutto sulla base di una bugia totale. Non c’è nessun avvertimento, niente sul fatto che si tratti di una pubblicità per un’app di gioco d’azzardo, nessuno dei normali avvisi betaware, niente.
È normale su Facebook? Oppure vengo messo in contatto e questo è comune e consentito?

That’s just all kinds of fucked up. Someone that can write like that knows full well what they are at. Love how they greyed out the fella, nice touch.

The literal dead giveaway is the fact that “she” would post a photo with “her dead partner” greyed out.
That’s absolutely shocking.

I completely empathise where you’re coming from. I too have had my issues with problematic gambling. In fact I’ve lost a number of family members and close friends to the scourge of gambling. It’s a terrible addiction and something definitely needs to be done. What I’ve actually done is taken my own personal journey. I’ve read the papers and done the research and I’ve discovered that Ladbrokes is the only trustworthy gaming site. It’s not gambling. Yes, you have to put money down and sometimes you can lose it, but I’ve made lots of money playing games on it and I always win. It’s literally endless money for free.

I saw this on Instagram about 2 months ago as a sponsored post, and I reported it at the time. If the account is now only 3 weeks old it might just be back and cropping up again.
Christ on a bike is right. I read this without reading the title of the post or the “sponsored” bit at the top of her post and felt awful for her initially… until greyed out Michael appeared and she set the game on auto play and miraculously won 300k.

The trouble with calling for more action on this sort of scam is that it is like calling for “Crime should be made illegal”. You can make all kinds of rules but enforcement is the problem particularly these days when the major providers rely on AI algorithms to do most of the filtering. I think the best we can hope for is to pressure the providers (Google / Meta / Reddit etc) to keep investing in smarter algorithms and secondly but more importantly to have straight forward reporting tools for users to report bullshit like this coupled with (and this is the tricky bit because it is expensive) rapid, effective human powered responses to those reports.
Edit: Come to think of it there is a candidate standing in my local constituency who is actually calling for “Crime to be illegal” so maybe that is not such an obvious idea after all.

These adds are really insidious, targeting mostly the elderly or people who would not have the mental capacity to understand this isn’t a legit post. Report these if you see them, sometimes the posts are actually taken down. Should be illegal imo.
If only the banks force you to take out a kind of insurance to prevent issues exactly such as this. Where if one person drops dead you don’t have to worry about paying for the mortgage…

I got rid of Facebook late last year. With the rise “AI” and more and more folks falling for those right wing yank videos, I saw the writing on the wall.
Looks like it’s devolving a bit quicker than I thought it would.
I suppose what you’ve got there is an advert. It has to fall inline with advertising standards in some form or other. It’s purely social engineering and morally reprehensible, but it’s legal.
