Post was down-voted by domesticated Europeans censoring themselves.

This is why Africans have always (wrongly) thought of the ICC as a “racist court”, since most of its defendants are African warlords.

France definitely would not argue for the “immunity” of the likes of Omar Al-Bashir. Recently the Prosecutor of the ICC also asked for an arrest warrant for the leader of the junta of Myanmar, who oversaw the genocide of the Rohingya. Is France going to invoke “immunity” as well?

A lot of you have very naive notions about international law and what it’s supposed to achieve. International law was always supposed to be a post-fact way of giving legal credibility to realpolitik foreign policy decisions (and, based purely on realpolitik, it’s clear that Putin is currently an enemy of Western values and interests to a much greater extent than Netanyahu). Nobody seriously thinks that it’s some sort of form of actual, objective justice – that would be fundamentally inconsistent with Westphalian sovereignty.

I’ve read, like, 20 different answers from different French officials so far.

Always been, just look at how they reacted to Palestinian, Libyan, and Syrian refuge vs. Ukrainian refuge

Poor show from France. Whatever you think of Netanyahu, they should have realised that this position compromises their stance on Putin.

    7. i mean.. is *is* hypocritical for sure. but putin is directly threatening Europe, while france still has a lot of common interests with israel. realpolitik

That is why it’s so hard to advocate for “rule-based order” in countries like Russia. You immediately get the response like: “huh, seems that this “rules” are not the same for everyone”.

They apparently accepted because at the beginning, by announcing their intention to respect their obligations and to arrest Netanyahu, Israel wanted to kick France out of the negotiations (conducted jointly with the United States). However, Lebanon absolutely wanted France to remain in the agreement, so Israel demanded that Netanyahu have immunity in France.

The actual statement made by Barrot (who isn’t representative of french people’s position) is that if Bibi steps in France he WILL be arrested , but the ICJ would likely grant him immunity .

Western politicians fighting for democracy and freedom in Ukraine but allow Israel to conduct a genocide. When will people realize that this is all BS virtue signalling? They don’t care about Ukranians at all.

Until ICC puts out their evidence, they are useless court. What is this stupid rule they dont show direct evidence? Every court does this with exceptions.

You can see evidence yourself with Putin yes, but i want direct evidence of Israel starving Gaza, they allow all the aid in, its not their fault that UN let Hamas loot the convoys. Locking border passages while there is danger is normal thing.

Netanjahu is an asshole, i agree with that. But i want evidence of the warrant to arrest him. You cant arrest him just for his statements.

      Yes, Europe is hypocritical.

Let’s not pretend like they are fair and objective, this is why ICC has limited credibility.

So now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about why the situation in Xinjiang constitutes a genocide beyond reasonable doubt and why the situation in Gaza definitely does not constitute a genocide. I’m too dumb to understand the intricacies here.

Nice, Russia can use this in their propaganda. Cheers France

One is not like the other. Two very distinct situations but nuance appears to not be of any importance for those arguing otherwise.

Ruzzia started the war in Ukraine, contrary to Israel.
War crimes are war crimes weather the country started the war or not but the situations aren’t comparable
