Thats why, if CG wins, dont assume that all romanians are in support of that twat and his views. Romanians, by and large, are so disappointed by politics that they are simply immune to everything thats happening. Some have no clue of what’s going on. It’s not because they are idiots, but such is the dislike of what these corrupt politicians have done over and over again that they think the guy will change nothing, not even get closer to russia or leave nato, simply because he’s a thief and nothing else.
I do have a little glimpse of hope myself that nato and pro western values are so deeply entrenched that even if putin gets elected, he won’t turn his back on our allies.
Still, it’s not an excuse for sleepwalking into electing a literal fascist.

While the entire situation in Romania is in complete CHAOS due to the latest results in the first round of the presidential elections [1], as well as the decision to recount those votes due to accusations of tampering with the ballots [2], while brother is fighting brother and friend is fighting friend using all sorts of name-calling, borrowed from both edges of the political spectrum… while ALL THIS shit show is happening, nobody pays attention to the real threat that looms around the corner – a far-right majority in the parliament and government, creating and passing laws, shaping up the budget for the country’s infrastructure, schools, hospitals, etc.
While the turnout for legislative/parliamentary elections in most European countries has constantly been well over 60%, because European citizens understand the importance of these elections, the turnout in Romania has slowly dwindled, bit by bit, reaching an all-time low of 32% in 2020 [3] !!!!
One of the reasons for which this happened is the smoke screen that the politically controlled media is projecting – “there’s finally a democracy”, “we no longer have a dictator”, “we can choose our LEADER”!
Thus, Romanians who have suffered during communism constantly vote PSD, for some morbid reason I will never understand, while young people who have never been taught in schools about the political system of their country [4] do not attend these elections at all, because their vote “doesn’t matter”.
That is why the Social Democratic Party has managed to create a majority in the Parliament in the last 20 years with just A FRACTION of the people voting for them. Between 15 and 25% of the country has decided the future of the ENTIRE population since 2008 onward.
WHY? Because most people think that the president in Romania somehow wields the same power as the president in the USA 🙂 Because almost nobody understands the role and the responsibilities of this job. Because the media has taught them so, basically!
Check out the turnout at the parliamentary elections in Romania since the 1989 Revolution:
* 1990 – 86.19% – 14,826,616 people
* 1992 – 76.29% – 12,496,430 people
* 1996 – 76.01% – 13,088,388 people
* 2000 – 65.31% – 11,559,458 people
* 2004 – 58.47% – 10,794,653 people
* 2008 – 39.20% – 7,238,871 people
* 2012 – 41.76% – 7,694,180 people
* 2016 – 39.79% – 7,323,368 people
* 2020 – 31.95% – 6,059,113 people
* 2024 – ? (probably under 30%)
If the turnout is this low this Sunday, on Romania’s National Day, there is a BIG CHANCE that one out of every four persons will have in their hands the power to decide the future of the other three!
One out of every four persons will give the power to those who create the budgets, those who build the highways, the railways, the schools, the hospitals, set the taxes, etc.
To me this an objective measure of failure for the country’s political system.

There are countries where people fight and die to vote.
But we are much further, we don’t have to fight and just don’t go, maybe until we have to fight again.

It’s because you can only vote in your hometown for parliamentary elections. Many people live in other places without officially living there. Especially students, long distance workers etc.

The fewer people vote, the cheaper is to get into power.

As a Romanian,
I always voted with no exception.
Unfortunately for the first time I am unable to vote the most important election, the parliamentary.
This because the scum PSD party decided that you may only vote if on the location of your ID card.
I have on my ID my birth City while I live in another city and I can’t go there to vote.
This wasn’t a problem 5 years ago as voting for parliamentary was not mandatory to be in your city based on your ID card.
They keep adding BS just to screw voters.
There’s no longer democracy in our country thanks to communist scums.
