Threatens US consumers and businesses with 100% taxes on Russian, Indian etc goods.
      TFTFY

    3. PutNo3922 on

Other than Brazil, I don’t see why the others shouldn’t be taxed or even sanctioned. Particularly Russia aligned countries – India, China, Iran,

Are they going to put a 100% tariff on iPhones? I call it a bluff.

    5. We should make a Tariff Simulator video game, can’t let that trend go to waste.

    6. its like someone gave a little retarded kid a new toy to play with. you get a tariff! and you get a tariff! everyone gets a tariff. maybe he will try to tariff the usa too

    7. Cheap_Marzipan_262 on

Someone has told donald, that the sole reason people use the dollar is because the US is expected not to do petty shit like this?

    8. Trump with constantly mentioning tarrifs against everything and everyone is like a child that learned a new word – and now tries to insert it into every sentence without full grasp of the meaning.

    9. krazydude22 on

Trump is going like the Oprah meme “And you get tarrifs and you get tarrifs… Everyone gets tarrifs”…

    10. ItsTom___ on

Tariffs to Trump are what Nukes are to Putin, gonna hear it said alot

“Top 12 Tariffs that will help make for a successful negotiation” by D.Trump

    12. I’m already tired of this shit and the 4 year clock hasn’t even started

    13. Slowly i get an idea how he went bankrupt with so many of his companies

    14. FINALLY something i can get behind with from this dumbass – 100% tariffs on russia sounds hilarious

“What is your goal here? To get everybody to hate you? Because it’s working!”

    16. Low_Technician_5034 on

There are no (at least official) economic relations between the US and Russia (due to hardcore trade sanctions imposed by the US). So what is going to be taxed with the supposed tariffs?

    17. This is obnoxious because it’s clearly unserious.

There’s no world in which China would be subject to anything close to this kind of tariff.

The point is the make wild statements like this so that it somehow seems normal when the US’ closest trading partners get 20% tariffs put on them.

    18. arjensmit on

Sounds desperate. And thats not so weird because indeed BRICS are working to replace the dollar and that would fuck over the USA’s game.

The USA’s hegemonic position is being threatened and they will not let it go without a fight. This is why i sometimes wonder if Trump isn’t an “accident” or “opposing TPTB”, but chosen by TPTB to do the dirty work and act like he isn’t one of them so afterwards, the decent acting politicians can rebuild international relations acting all nice but not reversing the tarrifs or at best just reducing them a bit.

Where does all the extra money go after raking in the profits from these tariffs? Who is getting rich off of this is the question, because the common man certainly isn’t going to see a reduction in taxes or an increase in wages, so who benefits exactly?

    20. Does he seriously think making such pre-emptive and general threats and under such a ridiculous basis (why would others care about “mighty” dollar, this is literal self-appraisal) is not going to have the opposite effect instead? I mean, Trump is already controversial as it is domestically but his foreign policy seems to be a complete trainwreck.

    21. GKGriffin on

The more I hear Trump talk about tariffs the less sure I become that he knows they are paid by the US not the other countries.

    22. Bloodsucker_ on

He’s going to do shit. Just like he did nothing with the mexican wall.

    23. SlyScorpion on

The fuck are they importing from Russia, which is under sanctions from the US and the EU? Oligarchs?

    24. The headline might as well be trump threatens the world with 100% tariffs lol

    25. SuperFaulty on

“Threatens Russia”. Sure, now the Russian economy will collapse after all the products they sell to the USA will get slapped a 100% tariff. The Russian merchants must now be trembling in fear of this threat. /s

    26. TheOnePVA on

fair enough, companies have been exploited cheap slave like labour for years to get their prices cheap which has ruined the american and european local industries, why shouldnt they be tariffed to both bring in more money to the american people and help insentivice local industries and create jobs in america?

    27. ManBearKwik on

It’s funny how people defend Russia and India here (that buys their oil and makes tons of money out of it) when it’s not their kind of President lol.

    28. InfelicitousRedditor on

This is actually a common strategy in negotiation, where you come to the table and say an outrageous number to shock the other party, and the idea is that then you can get a better deal by negotiating down.

The thing is, these are very basic tactics, that might sometimes work on a micro business level, between two parties that want to come to a deal, but on an international level, you might just get screwed in the long term. A nation cannot think in a span of 4 years mandates. It has to think decades ahead.

No country can thrive in isolation and sadly America would be showing it can’t be trusted to be a good and rational partner, which will then push allies to diversify away from it.

    29. goalmouthscramble on

The US imports fuck all from Russia. We can offset gas and minerals from sourcing from other partners including Iron. This is a nonsense.

    30. scootiewolff on

I wouldn’t give in, let him do it, then we’ll counter. But unfortunately we’ll crawl up his ass, poor Germany

    31. Sagonator on

Orange man has no clue what tarrifs are. I can do big bet on this.
