      It’s a bit mad to be fair. Here in Limerick I could never imagine people voting for one of the Dundons, McCarthys etc.

      Turns out thr best way to get lazy voters out is to offer a violent criminal as a candidate…

      I think a lot of the people who voted for The Monk probably feel like they have absolutely no stake whatsoever in the political system and the vote is a big fuck you to the government.

      Hutch won due to popularity. I’ll put it to you this way. When Gráine Seoige announced her candidacy most people had the same reaction, “Gráinne Seoige is running??” When Gerry Hutch announced his candidacy people said “GERRY HUTCH IS RUNNING!!!?!”

      Gerry won due to the horror factor. Every time someone posted a picture of one of his posters to bitch about him he gained votes. Everytime someone shared his campaign videos to laugh about he gained votes. Everytime a journalist spoke to him he gained votes.

      Gráinne Seoige didn’t win because she wasn’t a candidate that shocked and worried people, Hutch is exactly that and as a result he had way more attention. This is exactly how Donald Trump became US President in 2016. Gerry Hutch has a long future in politics.
