Good for them. NGL, they’re on my shortlist of places to go if things go south at home.

Our PR-STV system seems to keep out such extremes according to more savvy commenters…so I guess other systems are more prone to allowing them through.

But it seems like it’ll be more of the same –  to the detriment of my age group at least. C’est la vie.

Seems like the voter turnout wasn’t too high either. Now some people seem to have had vacations booked well in advance, but I have seen some lax excuses from others.

It seems like the Greens are almost completely wiped out, according to an article I’ve seen. But that seems to be a trend…following Progressive Democrats and Labour.

As an Italian, Ireland often gives me the impression of a firm will against the threat of the far right, and also a firm will against the silence about Palestine. Perhaps it has to do with your past as well.

Huge respect, we need to remember that the discontent of the people around the world is caused by systematic flaws, and the estabilishment parties in liberal democracies don’t want to change that at all, as it’d require structural change that could threaten the interests of the influential wealthy.

You can’t fix the economy by putting a boot on your neck, because the far right is exactly that: ruthless mask off capitalism (the USA and Russia go hand in hand in this, their conflicts origin from private interest within the same economic system, common people in america, europe and other continents don’t win anything with these wars), so don’t lie to yourself thinking stability through fear will resolve anything, the ones fearing shouldn’t be the majority of working class people, but the few wealthy.

When we are united, they piss their pants, just like about a century ago, but they responded by enabling fascism to rise, and we know how that went.

For outsiders, the main 2 parties are two cheeks of the same arse, with a large “soft left” opposition party. There’s more fractured soft left parties who naturally get the transferable votes between each other, so unlikely to go hard right or left.

Generally, if you want an extreme candidate, you give that individual your no 1, no 2 to the next oddball, but transfer votes rarely continue on up towards the centrist groups.
