Is it good or bad ? Could impact Schengen accession especially due to presidential election ?

    2. alexqaws on

Scary as fuck. The 3 far right parties AUR + SOS + POT have over 30% in total. Looks like the (shit) show must go on.

I smell another cordon sanitaire that will spend more time arguing with itself than runnign the country

So the question might become if mainstay PSD chooses to ally themselves with the right wing parties?

Or would they negotiate with PNL included first? Who else would they be likely to bring in? I’m assuming not USR since it seems PSD tried to sabotage USR’s candidate in the presidential election?

I saw Romania had a semi-presidential system so how does the President-Parliament work. Can the president just appoint a PM and hope they don’t get dismissed due to fragility or does he have to build a coalition?

    6. Question, is UDMR exempt from the threshold being a minority party? Because it would be funny, if they fell below 5% and there were no Hungarians (biggest minority) in the house, while other smaller ~20 minorities get their single deputies by the specific rules.

      Let me explain !

So, my fellow Europeans, at the moment, 60% of Romanians have voted for pro-Europe and pro-NATO parties, while 30% have supported extremist parties.

However, there are still many votes left to count, including those from the diaspora, which are predominantly pro-EU and pro-NATO.

See you in the morning !

Exit polls have a patter of undercounting far right ultranationalists so the fact that they are this close doesn’t bode well. Still I’d love to be proven wrong, even PSD is better than AUR, better the status quo than a nazi status.

Yet another eastern European country who longs for another round of self destruction?

A lot of people are acting hysterical here because their progressive party scored lower than expected. At least in exit-polls.

Now, the ferm pro-european parties are: PSD, PNL, USR, UDMR

From the sovereignist side, the biggest party, AUR is also pro-EU and pro-NATO. They said it again today, it is also mentioned in their party status. They are part of the ECR group (Meloni) in the European Parliament.

      SOS is extreme, yes.

POT (Party of Young People) is a new conservative party that promotes small businesses and animal welfare among other things on their website. However, I did not find something mentioned there regarding their stance on EU and NATO. Moreover, European Funds and how to use them is mentioned in their political program. This means they do not want to leave EU.

Social democrats first, fascists second, centrist conservatives third.

      Yeah, it’s Weimar time.

it’s not that bad all things considered. But let’s cross the bridge next Sunday with the presidential runoff

Let’s wait a few hours. We have some fresh experience with this.

Exit polls are very unreliable data. We will see in the morning

    16. Leather-Card-3000 on

      Honestly, pretty average and expectable.
For the foreigners reading around, just be aware that Ro guys here are heavily USR, so its mostly their point of view that you know, I would take things with a grain of salt.
The spectrum is wider I’d say.
May we see light someday as a nation – shades of past regime(S) still haunts many of us
Signed, an apolitical romanian who voted.

    17. Ouwlikinz on

I’ll preface this by mentioned the last exit poll was unreliable with the Calin Georgescu surprise. Also, supposedly, at least a third of people who got asked, refused to answer in the exit poll. (Noone asked me for an exit poll)

      That being said:

PSD – The old guard. Been in power since the revolution and bleeding the country dry to line their pockets. They can eat shit.

      AUR – Pro-russians

PNL – Second biggest party and were meant to be foil to PSD. try to keep them in check. They made an alliance with PSD not too long ago so they’re traitors and can also eat shit.

USR – The progressive party. They’re far from perfect, but generally well intentioned. Also Elena Lasconi’s party

SOS – If you watched the Euro-Parlamentary you might’ve seen a lady with a dog muzzle. This is her party. She is pro-russian.

POT – Unknown party that suddenly got noticed because they said they support Calin Gergescu.

UDMR – Maghiar means Hungarian. Romania has a sizeable hungarian populatian. There is a special rule that allows them to be part of the parliament even though they don’t have enough for 5% of the votes. I’ll let you decide how good or bad that is.

This is just my opinion and understanding of how things are as a Romanian. Make of that what you will. Not interested in further discussions.

    18. draenlaux on

chill. those are just predictions. trust nobody. wait for the final results.

    19. xattikox on

This is just an exit poll. It doesn’t mean anything. Wait for the official results!

    20. Substantial-Season46 on

Romania doesn’t have a party that people can choose freely and according to believes and principles. We always go for the lesser evil, hoping that it’ll be better and ends up the same.
