It would be same if majority of Christians would start calling their children Jesus.

Arabs and Pakistanis don’t have much name diversity. Most guys get name Muhammad/Muhammed or its variations. Or maybe Muhammad Muhammed + any other name (like Muhammad Ali + Surname).
This doesn’t mean anything calm down lol.

Hasn’t this been the case for decades?
And isn’t it because Muhammad is the first name of a lot of Muslim boys just, as the results of how they name kids?
If Christians did the same with ‘Jesus’, the same effect would take place.

Well it’s not gonna be Aleksandr, Pjotr or Dimitri, thanks to Brexit.

It is also the top for Israel…
Doesn’t tell you much except that maybe Muslims are a bit unoriginal in naming their children
If you were to count all English and Welsh names together and compared them to Muhammad or other Arabic/Islamic names it wouldn’t be so impressive

If only Muhammad was a great sounding name, but it’s quite a ugly name. No offence.
I can’t see the full data, but it’s probably the case that Muslim households overwhelmingly name their boys with this specific name, while Christians or non-religious have a lot more variety in names. This means that while Muhammad has the top spot for single named children, it does not imply that a majority of children being born came from Muslim or Muslim-background households. In fact, if you look at the article it says a western name (Olivia) tops the girl’s statistics.
There’s definitely a healthy discussion to be had about migration and the cultural implications, but just wanted to say that this is probably not the game over sign some people might interpret it to be.

Considering how many muslims name their children that vs others who have a much wider variety in name choice this shouldn’t be surprising. Of course some will take what they want from the info and come up with different conclusions

Poor children, named after a bloke who married a 9 year old.

This usually goes like this:
– Muhammad is the top.
– There are 2 other Arabic names in the top 10, like 7th and 9th.
– All the other names are Western.
– If you sum the Arabic names and Western names, Western ones together are still 90 percent total.
– But that’s not scary statistics.
– People are too dumb to understand statistics.

I know it’s a cultural thing but it’s always been strange to me when certain populations love to call their children after major religious figures (and it isn’t only Muslims, hello all the spanish speaking Jesuses out there in the world). I mean what happens when they grow up and turn out to be psychos or just generally shitty people? Hello this is Jesus the rapist, lovely to meet you I’m Muhammad the murderer.

If you read the article it’s only 4600, out of around half a million babies, now, I’m more surprised there’s so much creativity in the rest of them, but the rise to 19,000 hyphenated names is weirdly of more concern to me to be honest, and Actually why is the talk not about how the names “Jax, Enzo and Bodhi” have entered the top 100 names, that seems like a much more pressing issue to me

Well yeah, the vote is split 1000 different ways between Anglo Saxon first names. Meanwhile, other communities all choose the same first name and reserve the 1000 different names for the second name.

It’s worth noting that while it’s the most common name, there are way more traditional English and Welsh last names if you added them all up together.

I’m just gonna leave [this interesting graph here](https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/1h2xl13/incarceration_rates_foreignborn_nationals_are/) that shows the harder you work to integrate Immigrants, the less they become statistics in your prisons, gaols and criminal networks.
