H.E. Adrian Zuckerman, United States Ambassador to Romania (2019-2021) reacted exclusively to DC News, after the CCR decided to cancel the first round of the presidential elections in Romania.

Zuckerman welcomes the decision and reports that the CCR has stopped today a large-scale hybrid attack against Romania, carried out by the Russian Federation. He calls on all pro-European parties to collaborate with the authorities to ensure a calm and fair future election and demands that those involved in the unprecedented large-scale hybrid attack on Romania be brought to justice.

We reproduce the message in full:

„Today is a day that will live in Romanian history for many years to come.  Today the Romanian justice system preserved Romanian freedom and democracy. I commend the CCR for its courage and vision.  It brought the massive cyber attack commenced by Russia, with possible cooperation from other states, against the Romanian electoral system to a halt.  The annulment of a materially interfered with first round of presidential elections and rescheduling a free and fair election process is the only way to preserve democracy.

Romania was brought back from the edge of a cliff.  I have full confidence in the Romanian authorities to investigate the massive cyber attack and take such steps as may be necessary to prevent future similar attacks and to bring those involved to justice. Interference with a free and fair election process can not be tolerated in a democracy.

I urge all political parties to work together, along with government authorities, to assure a calm, secure and fair election process for the next round of presidential elections.

Democracy was preserved today. Romania will continue to move forward with the European Union, NATO and its best friend, the United States of America. That light on a hill, that represents freedom, democracy and prosperity, shines brighter today for the Romanian people.

God bless Romania and the United States”.

Now let’s hope we won’t voluntarily bring ourselves close to the cliff again.

This piece of shit has just finished campaigning for one of the candidates. Since when does an ambassador (albeit former) get involved into the politics of the country he is in? And if Romania was brought back from anywhere, he and his Trumpist assholes had nothing to do with it.

I’m sure this declaration will be help a lot with the political climate in Romania and their trust in their elections.

Wasn’t the attack misinformation? The people that voted still hold those ideas and will vote accordingly

What the f*ck has the Facebook CEO anything to do about that?

Entire South-Eastern flank of NATO is just a kindergarden. If Russia gets a border with these guys, Orban, Fico, this Romanian TikTok dude – it will all fall apart like a house of cards.

At least now it’s clear what Putin was counting on when he started the war.

Ok, I’m as happy as the next sane person that this particular attack was stopped, but can’t russia just pull off the same thing again? Find some new right-wing nutjob and use their influence ops to push him? And use the lessons from this round to make sure the next guy doesn’t have the same vulnerabilities?

Let’s see how things go in the new election before claiming anything has been stopped. Sure, Russia might have used a very effective influence operation, but the fact is that 23% of the voting public bought into it. Let’s see if these same people or more don’t show up at the next try.

Does anyone know if voter registration for citizens abroad is reopening? I forgot to register until after it closed the first time and was wondering if it would reopen now that the election was annulled

Absolute disgrace of a country that cancels elections because of phantom “Russian interference.” People should be allowed to vote for whatever candidate they please, even if that politician is anti-European and pro-Russia.

“Don’t say hop until you jump on the horse” is a saying here. This is not a democracy. We have failed on all fronts. See us in the streets. It’s gonna get broody.

Hybrid, shmybrid. What mr Zuk fails to address is the fact that some of the ppl inside the ruling party / gov are most likely hand in hand with the people they accuse of trying to usurp power. They are playing both sides. Corruption cuts deep. The dude they are accusing of being Putin’s man was part of the old communist gov and had ties with the socialist party up until the late 90s – late 2000s. He had state promoted positions uninterrupted for years. Some say he is part of one of the branches of secret service.

    14. Will the far-right be allowed to run again? Isn’t the Russian asset going to be jailed and his party banned? If not, he’s probably gonna win the next elections.,

Just fyi, this guy is from the Trump Admin No. 1. Just in case anyone thinks he is speaking for Biden.

It’s amazing. Finally one country has realised that Russia is at war with us and did something about it.
