Ciao! Spero che qualcuno qui possa aiutare. Sto esaminando vecchie fotografie di famiglia e mi sono imbattuto in questa di un bambino molto carino e forse della loro madre. La famiglia di mia nonna è danese (cognome Jensen) quindi presumo che l’iscrizione sia in danese. Qualcuno può tradurlo in inglese? Sarebbe bello sapere anche qualsiasi altro indizio di contesto, se ce ne sono (ad esempio, eventuali regionalismi). Grazie!

Cant read all those letters but something like this:

“Her er mormor (or mamma?) og lille Skat kalder vi hende “så?” meget men er hun ikke også en skat og en skjelm”

“Here is grandma (or mom?) and little Precious. That’s what we call her a lot. But isn’t she a cutie and a bit naughty.”

Not quite sure about the last word Skjælm. Means something in the lines of a scoundril or naughty in a cute way. Not sure. Somebody else chime in?

    2. I think (the handwriting may be throwing me off) it says:
Here are Grandma and little darling as we call her too much but is she not also a darling and a “skjelm”

I think that last one is probably regional and would usually be skælm = naughty and/or playfull.

In danish: her er mormor og lille skat kalder vi hende nok meget men er hun ikke også en skat og en skjælm

Translating to : here are granny and our little darling, as we often call her, but isn’t she a darling and a charmer

Skjælm does not really translate directly to English but it is someone who makes fun in a lighthearted manner. In modern danish it is spelled skælm, and is not used much.

The grammar is slightly off and lacks punctuation, I would assume that the writer had written it as the thoughts flew.
The clothes and hair would suggest somewhere around 1930’s or 1940’s (maybe as late as 1950’s depending on how fashion forward granny were, but the clothes of the child seems earlier).

It is a really sweet picture.

      I read:
Her er mormor og lille skat kalder vi hende men er hun ikke også en skat og en Skjalm

This is grandma (mother’s side) and little darling we call her. But isn’t she just a darling and a Skjalm (which could be a name) (or Skjælm as some of the others mention)

I’d translate “skjælm” to mean “cute troublemaker”.

“Her er mamma og lille skat kalder vi hende saa meget men er hun ikke ogsaa en skat og en skjælm”

Here is momma and little treasure (= darling/sweetheart) we call her so much but is she not a little treasure and a bandit

It’s like three sentences merged into one..
