      Lest we forget…

That we visited for a fun day out, took photos of ourselves and scratched our names on the walls for others to know we visited. The souvenir shop was lacking, though, and there wasn’t even a restaurant. 2 stars, Disneyland it is not!…

does not surprise me, how many schools from all over Europe bring children there every year?

Children are little shits that do disrespectful stuff all the time

I’m not making excuses for them, I’m just saying that it does not surprise me

Margaritas ante porcos. I don’t think kids should visit heritage sites at all, they don’t even appreciate it. Teenagers on school trips throughout europe just think about having fun and fooling around. Not sure why the need to bring them here, they are not capable of understanding any of it. Leave heritage sites for mature people interested in learning about history.

Try to do any of this at an archaeological site like Pompei in Italy, and the Carabinieri will be right there breathing on your neck ready to arrest you in 50 seconds. All sites are controlled 24hrs by cameras and police patrols.

People act stupidly whenever you give them the opportunity, especially young uneducated ones. But if you truly value the cultural heritage of your country you also put in place control systems to avoid any form of vandalism. And you educate people and tourists to live the heritage site properly.

If we want tourists to respect heritage sites we have to be the first serious about respecting them. And any form of past vandalism is part of the monument’s history anyway.

Destroy completely all the places on the high mountains, on the hills and under every spreading tree, where the nations you are dispossessing worship their gods. And here is me being a bit of what Americans would say, doofus, and thinking if placing a box of white chalk would satisfy those kids. Write your text, take a photo, bugger off and leave the mess for a worker to wash off later.

Probably not though. It’s a bit like tagging in my city, done with black permanent markers. Sometimes I watch their work on a bus stop for minutes, and I cannot decide if it is urban art or diarrhea.

Dude I went to Auschwitz when I was 15 with my school and none of us would ever have thought to do this. It’s such a sobering experience, what is wrong with people? it’s a grave site where so many atrocities happened why the fuck would you want to carve your name in the wall?

Why do tourists have to be so stupid all the time? Can’t these people just have some respect for historic places?
