CIAO r/austria,
Stavo pensando di viaggiare da solo nel tuo bellissimo paese. Inizierei dal Benelux e prenderei un treno cuccetta per Vienna, trascorrendo lì qualche giorno e farei 2 viaggi nei paesi vicini prima di tornare a visitare Salisburgo e Innsbruck.
Non ho ancora deciso quanto spenderei in ogni luogo e quanto tempo dovrebbe durare il mio viaggio in totale. È un piano di viaggio realistico per qualcosa come 2 settimane o dovrei aspettarmi di aver bisogno di più tempo per godermi davvero questi posti?
Ragazzi, avete qualche consiglio sui posti da vedere o sulle cose che dovrebbero essere evitate? Anche l’Austria è un posto sicuro per viaggiare da soli in generale? Le persone sono amichevoli, è facile incontrare persone con cui fare cose?
Mi piacciono molto i musei, la natura, la musica dal vivo (qualcosa come un jazz café, niente concerti), i bar con giochi da tavolo e, ovviamente, solo le visite turistiche. Eventuali suggerimenti su tali luoghi o altri posti carini da visitare in una qualsiasi delle città sopra indicate sarebbero molto apprezzati.

Yes should be doable in 2 week. Also yes it’s very safe here to travel alone. No problem at all. Museums I would say Vienna has the best. Depending on your interests different ones will be interring to you but for me the museum of science and Technologie and the natural history one are a must. At least for me. The art history museum is also pretty nice I would say. For the nature stuff insbruck and its surrounding areas are probably the best I would say. I would search for a nice hiking trail there. Sarl I am not that much into live music so I can’t help there. General Sightseeing is great in all of those cities but I would say Vienna has the most nice sightseeing spots.
Salzkammergut (lake grundlsee, lake hallstättersee, lake altausee, bad ischl) It’s easy to reach by train and public transport
I feel like 2 weeks might be a bit rushed imo but its doable. I’d spend maybe 2-3 days in Salzburg (especially if you want to see some nice places around it too – there’s A LOT of stunning places there to discover), 4-5 days in Vienna (more if you’re into museums), 3-4 days in Budapest (you could easily spend more time tho). Bratislava is sweet but you can skip it for some other places imo, if you’re keen on it 1-2 days should be more than enough(daytrip from Vienna?). I haven’t been to innsbruck in years but I’d say probably 1-2 days should be good (maybe more if you want to visit some of the surrounding area as well)
For cafes Vienna is by far the best! Lots of cute, old cafes there. The people of vienna are kinda rude tho sometimes on their first impression so dont take it personal, it’s normal their and not meant to be offensive, it’s just how they communicate
Getting to know local people is tougher in all of these places compared to some other countries. Your best shot for that would be to go to the countryside or some bars/cafes(at night)/clubs
MUST SEE: Vienna, Budapest, Salzkammergut
Other recommendations: Graz, Brno
Safety: all of the places you mentioned are incredibly safe. Austria is one of the absolute safest countries on this planet and Vienna maybe the safest city. There’s nothing to worry about.
If you can make it down to Neusiedlersee, I’d do so. Could be a day trip or an overnight. They have quite quaint little towns with storks and great wine. The Seewinkel is very nice and often overlooked.
In Salzburg, Innsbruck, Bratislava you can see most important things in one day for each city.
Vienna and Budapest are a lot bigger, so you should spend more time there, but it should be doable in two weeks easily.
Vienna is a big city with lots of attractions, I would spend most of the time there.
Salzburg & innsbruck are rather small 1 or 2 days is probably fine.
As for safty, I think its gotten a bit worse, but gerneally you should be fine – way better than lets say Paris for example.
I would go for museums, nature, live music in Austria, it has the largest & widest selection of those.
2 weeks is doable. For Austria there is not much to be avoided, maybe too many people at some touristic spots that can make things exhausting. There is one thing avoid NOT having cash on you. Cash is king in Austria and you might not be able to pay with card at some places or only for >10€ orders.

What exactly is the “stuff” you want to do with local people? Hookups? Should work ok if you’re a reasonably attractive woman, not so much if you’re an older average guy. Or do you expect free tour guides? This will be hard, it’s a profession for a reason, people won’t do you any favours just because.
Two weeks is possible 🙂
Vienna has a lot to offer, so I’d stay there for the longest.
Bratislava is fine for a day trip.
In Budapest and Salzburg, I’d stay for 2 days
Can’t really say anything for Innsbruck, but most people here suggest that 1-2 days should be enough.

I would do:
Vienna: 1 week
MUST SEE: some of the best museums in the world: Albertina (the very oldest!), Belvedere, Leopold Museum, mumok, museums of art history and natural history, MAK, wien museum.
Bratislava: 1 afternoon is enough; visit the castle of Bratislava
take the speed water ferry from Vienna, and from Bratislava, go by train to budapest
Budapest: 2 days
MUST SEE: Széchenyi Thermal Bath (come as early as possible!!!); Szimpla Kert (in the evening); big market hall
Salzburg: 1 day
MUST SEE: Festung Hohensalzburg, Schloß Mirabell. nice town, but overrated and too touristic in my opinion. I would prefer the town of LINZ instead and visit the very unique “Ars Electronica Center”, a big technology museum.
Innsbruck 3 days
MUST SEE: take the “Hungerburgbahn” and go up the mountain “Hafelekar”. This will be the most spectacular view on your journey. Also, hiking is great in and around Innsbruck, f. e. “Sillschlucht”.
Looks OK. It’s about the pace I would travel in my 20s. 3-4 days Vienna, 2-3 Budapest, 1 Bratislava, 2-3 Salzburg, 1-2 Innsbruck would make sense IMO.
Austria is safe.

No, Austrians are not known for that. You’ll probably meet more international people if you stay in youth hostels.

We do not have much live music in bars or cafes. There is a Jazz club in Vienna called https://www.porgy.at/ . I have heard that Austria has a vibrant jazz scene with great artists but I don’t know anything about it.
Museums are abundant in Vienna! (NHM, KHM, Albertina, Schoenbrunn Palace, Leopold Museum, Belvedere, etc) Some of them are huge and can take up a full day. Definitely do your research beforehand and prioritize because you *could* easily spend a full week in Vienna*s museum but that would mess up your travel schedule.
Nature may be more difficult to reach if you are traveling by train. My suggested schedule before assumed that you mainly visit those cities.
You could spend an evening in linz because it’s already by the way
