      By Matthew Impelli – Writer:

Companies from the United Kingdom (U.K.), Italy and Japan are set to collaborate on a new fighter jet.

      The Jet:

Under the agreement, Britain’s BAE Systems, Italy’s Leonardo and Japan Aircraft Industrial Enhancement (JAIEC) will each hold an equal one-third stake in the new joint venture, pending regulatory approval.

The triangular-shaped jets will feature supersonic capabilities and state-of-the-art technology, including a digital cockpit equipped with virtual reality. Pilots will have key information displayed directly in front of them to enhance situational awareness.

“This agreement is the result of an intensive journey made possible by pooling our mutual and shared experiences,” Roberto Cingolani, Leonardo’s chief executive, said.

This project has been in progress for many years. The new 6th generation figher jet is called Tempest. A word from Latin “tempesta” that means storm. The Airbus separately develops a 6th fighetr jet as well. The two project should be merge.

And France and Germany are still discussing the pre-plan of the plan of the project plan.
As a vegan I find it ridiculous that the FCAS is still going on, both countries are wasting their time.

Good. We need to be prepared for WWIII on the off chance the Axis doesn’t completely cripple itself by prioritizing ethnic issues over strategic maintenance such as Assad’s regime.

Japan is entering an era where their technological innovation is now trending towards using it for military purposes, which is an asset if you’re on the good side of japan, bad if you’re on the other side.

There’s also a trend in japan to not be a “self defense forces” anymore but a fully functional military capable of offensives with or without US support. They understand that even though they have a strong relationship and military agreements with the united states, along with the US having a more or less permanent bases in Japan – US has been exposed lately to not be a reliable ally and is heavily inconsistent in global commitments depending on internal politics.

The current prime minister is apparently also a military buff, and has promoted the idea of an asian NATO primarily to counter chinese and russian threats.

Europe is still slowly learning this ugly truth. It doesn’t matter that you helped the US after 9/11 when they asked for it.
We’re on our own now. Let’s not forget that even in WWII, US was a late party to the war and didn’t really got involved until 2 years later when Japan attacked pearl harbour. Yes, europe and canada are trying to fight hitler and US and there was a big chance that europe will be nazi occupied and US is just sitting pretty due to “isolationism”.

In a hypothetical scenario where russia attacks an EU or NATO country, it’s not guaranteed that the US would be militarily involved directly unless they’re attacked directly. This is the isolationism that benefits no one but the hitlers of world like putin, but is nonetheless a political philosophy that was promoted then in the US, and now in trump’s america. That’s the ugly truth.

Japan was one of the first countries to sanction russia and belarus after the 2022 invasion of ukraine. In fact, their first sanction was imposed within 24 hours by Feb 25, 2022. This was faster than many european countries. As it currently stands, they’re one of the highest donors of non lethal aid to ukraine.

Europe should tap into more partnerships with japan they would be an asset.

Good thing that’s UK there and not Germany in this collab

Following on from the Eurocanards era, we have consolidated down from 3 to 2 (FCAS & GCAP). More resources are pooled together, I’d say this is a good thing. Of course Sweden will do it’s own thing again with its Flygsystem program.

As PERUN predicted more than one year ago in his video about the race for the 6th generation fighter.

He even ranked this venture for Tempest as the most attainable and realistic of the project, as the plane should combine the state of the art of existing tech, not being based on tech that isn’t there yet

It’s important to note that this is a unique venture, as traditionally Japan have always bought US kit via FMS, and whilst they have created some fantastic aircraft off their own back, they lack the required certification to export these (among other things).

I have heard so many collaborations about the 6th generation fighter jets between my own and other EU countries that I simply don’t know which one to believe. Just pick one and stick with it!

Can someone ELI5 why these are only replacing the Typhoons and not the F35 aswell?

I know Mitsubishi worked extensively with BAE and other partners on their MRJ project, but there were no Italian partner companies that I recall. Part of Mitsubishi’s problems with MRJ came from the difficulties in managing test requirements across so many government and ngo groups. Of course, military tends to shortcut some of this while complicating other parts. I wonder how much of the MRJ people are now in JAIEC.

Is this about the Tempest, cause if so, the project has been going on for a while already.

    18. dieItalienischer on

We already have been for a long time, no? The Tempest is at least 5 years into development

These initiatives with planes and aircraft almost never work out because every country decides they want different things.

Apparently a large number of people think a fighter jet is a form of car.
