Good start, we need a fair few more of these. We’d probably also wipe out petty crime if we just gave out the heroin for free, and it would be safer.

Great news. A lot of drug addiction is both the causes and result of huge social deprivation and trauma. Having a place for professionals to meet and help addicts, while also giving them a safe place to use, is a proven way of lowering addiction and helping communities.

It is a lot cheaper for the State to address the issue here, rather than wait till the justice system deals with them and more welfare resources is required.

A lot of crime is caused by addiction, but those that do it are not necessary criminals themselves, rather to feed their addiction.

The old saying goes, Heroin doesn’t make someone criminal, not having heroin does.

Great news although still major questions to be asked about why it took so long to finally get this in place given how bad the heroin issue has been in Dublin for decades now.

I think this is a great scheme and I’ll be curious to see how it works out, especially as I live in the area. I understand people’s concerns about this attracting more users to one location, but let’s face it, MQI and its surrounds are already about as bad as it gets for open drug use in Dublin. If it makes it safer and takes some people off the streets, it can only be a good thing.

It’s been shown to work in many countries for ages by now.

Even more radical approaches like the Swiss one with free Methadon/Heroin has been a full success for two decades. It’s just so much cheaper for society to treat personal drug use as a medical rather than criminal issue.

    6. A victory for the low threshold harm reduction acolytes in the Homeless services and addiction services industry. Unfortunately proper treatment is too expensive policing is ineffective so let’s just add another band aid but slap ourselves on the backs for being innovative.

About fooking time. Look at Lisbon and their stats in the last 15 years.

This should be in an industrial area in the suburbs .
MQ does great work but the carry on of the drug addicts in the vicinity is shocking .
Our tourism industry is so important for the city and brings in huge revenue but to have this facility on the walk down to the Guinness factory is shooting the city’s tourism industry in the foot .
