He should bring along someone to provide a voiceover.
Bonus points if Stephen Rea agrees to reprise the role.
I always found the weird cult around Gerry in recent years very odd to say the least. All the “wholesome” memes and didn’t he write a Christmas book for kids or something as well? I can only imagine the blood that man has on his hands.
He was responsible for the IRA and he was involved in ordering some of their atrocities. Everyone knows this, but they are absolutely not going to prove it.
Why does he always lie? Is it because he has lied so many times he has to keep going? Or is he worried he will be sued if he admits he was in the IRA? He could have always just avoided answering the question.
My honest take on Gerry having done a decent amount of reading about him and the Troubles.
He distanced himself from the Provos in the public eye just enough to succeed in politics but always kept some connections to keep tabs on things.
I believe the confessions of many other former Provos that he was a top man in the organisation and made a lot of decisions and gave orders that resulted in murder and tragedy.
I also think he will forever maintain his lie about never being involved in order to somewhat Martyr himself for peace.
If he opens up, then it keeps the past alive. If he never addresses it, it remains the past, and when he’s gone, it will be over.
I’ve not articulated this well, but in summary – he is willing to keep the atrocities he oversaw and ordered to himself and bear that guilt. While unfair to his victims, in a way it closes the door on the past. Whether this is for the good of the community or for his own selfish martyrdom I don’t know.
This is not an endorsement for the responsibility he ultimately has for some of the atrocities he oversaw, it is merely an observation.
A blatant hit piece masquerading as a ‘tv show’ brought out rather conveniently before our elections has everyone’s eyes on Gerry rather than the issues affecting our island of Eire today.
Let’s hope they bring one out on Paisley and Uk government collusion with loyalist paramilitaries before the next assembly elections up north ✌️ all in the interest of equality, right?
Do you think continuing to deny his involvement with the IRA was necessary from a negotiation view point throughout the 90’s. Everyone knew he was in the IRA but by simply denying this made it much easier to talk and negotiate with all parties involved.
