I’m genuinely not surprised by this at all with the hotels and restertaunts gouging with their prices.
It’s a sad state of affairs when it’s cheaper to fly / stay in a different country rather than a holiday at home
We went abroad this year for the first time in years. The price of staying in Ireland wasn’t worth it anymore.
You mean a shite hole in bogsville nowhere isnt worth 400€ a night for a bed from 1950s and a cold fry? Shocking, just shocking.

Thats a very nice way of saying, visitors dont like getting ripped off, so they arent visiting anymore.
I’d say they can copy and paste this for the foreseeable.
Two factors driving this:
1. the price and
2. the practice of using hotel accommodation to house people on a long term basis.
The latter is driving up the former plus, having stayed in hotels here only to discover refugees on the same floor, children in uniforms roaming the halls, oversubscribed leisure facilities, and residents doing laundry and getting shopping delivered to their rooms, it’s not exactly what you picture when you think “holiday”. I have NOTHING against housing people at all, on the contrary, people should be homed. But I think these properties should either be doing one or the other. Either be a hotel, or be a long term accommodation provider. You can’t do both and then expect long term residents, short term residents, guests, leisure club members AND diners to all be happy.
Earlier this year a weekend in London including a fancy dinner and a ticket to Hamilton cost us the same as a weekend in Clare. I love going on holidays in Ireland but it’s really not good value for money.
Yeah turns out ripping people off, providing tourism solely catered to boomer famine emmigrant offsrping and British stag do’s and not having a metro from the airport tends to fuck off tourists eventually.
A week in the sun is cheaper than 2/3 nights away here, wtf do they expect
When living in ireland , flying to Spain staying the week and flying home is cheaper than a stay in Ireland I’m not surprised
In a shock to only the hotel industry, it turns out that price and availability are limiting factors.
Yeah we are a rip off country with bad weather. Beautiful country but not surprised figures are low.
I confidently predict that after two solid years of price gouging, the hotelier’s trade association will have the begging bowl out again as soon as a new government is formed.
