Patriotism in itself is kind of a right wing dog whistle, for everyone not on the right, at least very conservative, side in Germany.

But he’ll be very probably someone on the far right side of the political spectrum, a nationalist and may very well believe in conspiracies about the political legitimation of the german state.
This is just stupid. If he was a real patriot, there wouldnt be need to use the imperial flag of Germany that was antidemocratic, antiliberal and militaristic (and much more but not something a person could be proud of)
Real patriots should use the Federal Flag (Schwarz-Rot-Gold). Everything else is just their weird way of historical revisioning and trying to make it look less bad by glorifying old times (and probably war and more).

It’s the iron cross (Eiserne Kreuz) over the flag of the German Empire. It’s used by either Kaiserboos or bonified Nazis, as the Nazi flag is banned so they use past imperial symbols instead. No one who has it and uses it proudly is someone good to know lol

The swastika flag is banned in Germany that’s why nazis started to use this flag instead. People who use this flag aren’t patriots, they are in fact anti patriots since they want to get rid of democracy.

Isn’t that German empire? Honestly, I hate when people label everyone a Nazi, guys remember, call a Nazi…. only actual Nazis, because the word lost its meaning, everyone just calls each other Nazi. It’s so stupid. The left, the right. Nazi this, Nazi that, I’m gonna puke because of hypocrisy.
For instance, many of my friends call current Germany Nazi regime because of very strict laws.
Just think a little bit, what makes a person a Nazi? Some old flag? Isn’t it stupid to think like that? Aren’t their views, their cruelty, etc make them Nazis and not flags of old empire? People in the comments are focused on EVERYTHING except being reasonable, just labeling poor guy a Nazi for a flag with a cross that was even used in Russian Empire (pre Soviet Union). Hate people for their views, not for views you manually assign to people in your head or people will stop believing you because you scream Nazi in every corner, people are not stupid and will be extremely angry if you label them unfairly, be thoughtful and don’t use such strong words lightly.

I was actually about to defend him in that other thread, because I could see myself using that flag or something similar (Iron Cross) at his age (16?) as a profile picture on Steam. Didn’t have Instagram back then and granted, using it on social media is probably a bit different compared to using it on a gaming platform. My friends and me used to play WW1/WW2 games a lot and your Steam profile picture oftentimes is also your ingame profile picture (and yes, I’m aware that some people here will point out now that playing games where one has to “fight and die for ze glory of ze german fatherland” is very tasteless in itself and that it automatically makes one highly suspicious of me being right-wing as well, but all I can tell you that I never voted for a far right party, and I’m not going to engage in any arguments here, so just downvote and be on your way please).
But if he’s justifying this with beging a “patriot”, then yeah, he’s an idiot. At 16 one should know better and be aware of the associations and reactions this kind of “patriotic” display is going to have on other people when they see this, and he’s obviously fine with that, otherwise why wouldn’t he just use 🇩🇪?
