The Grand-Duke is de… uhm… Old! Long live the Grand-Duke!
Small point. As the Grand-Duke from the same royal branch of the Dutch royal family Oranje-Nassau, abdication is perfectly normal and the current Grand-Duke would live out the rest of his life in one of the Grand-Duchy’s palaces.
Monarchs will probably become the norm (already is in much of Europe).. I think that’s what the orange guy has in mind.. regardless, great news for Luxembourg! Merry Christmas!
And news flash, monarchs bring stability and peace rather than chaos so they have advantages if done like the British minus the House of Lords. Even then, House of Lords has upsides!
