Why is it that in “poorer” countries there are more homeowners and in richer countries there are more renters?

    2. In the Netherlands the home ownership rate is abt 57% of households, but as renters are disproportionally single households, the 43% of homes that are rented are inhabitated by less than a third of the population.

Germany has high renter protection and a culture of renting. On top buying and selling is a pain in the ass…

Yeah, Romania at the top for now! But in case of an earthquake like we had in ’77, the old and the poorly newly built constructions will crumble, making us reach the bottom of this top!

Low birth rates and low immigration are 2 factors that account for high home ownership in most Eastern EU countries.

Does the renters figure for Hungary include people on local authority ‘shared ownership’ schemes?

Because, they are still paying a rent every month despite having an exclusivity agreement to the premises. And it is a common arrangement, AFAIK.

That feeling when Netherlands blocked Romania in schengen for so long but only because all the dutch people who can’t afford a home in this godforsaken housing market would move to Romania

    9. Germany, come on, man! Drop housing prices already! Stop letting banks buy private homes!
