I get more news about Poland from r/europe than r/polska somehow xD.
Well, gotta show off a bit eh? 😉 Truth be told those new highways are brilliant. I still make the same old jokes about Polish roads from time to time, but like many Polish traditions they’re pretty much disconnected from reality these days xD I’ve been travelling from Warsaw to BiaÅ‚ystok this year twice, once by train and once by car, and I do remember the hours spent there stuck in traffic in my youth, while nowadays it’s super fast, pleasant and comfy; feels like we’ve jumped half a century into the future in the past 15 years really.

Having lived in Poland in the late 90ies, this is just incredible in comparison.

Big part of them are brand news roads, safe and well constructed.Â

I remember when they were building the new A4 all the way from the German border to the Ukrainian border for the Euro 2012. I’m a German who wanted to see a match in Lviv(Ukraine) and was happy about the convenience. They almost managed to get it done in time, too, but the highway ended somewhere past Rzeszow, so I got to see some nice Eastern Polish countryside, too. 😀

I remember at some point in 2000’s we in Croatia built some part of the highway and surpassed Poland in length, I think it was like 700km, lol..

We are thankful for the Poles that come to work in our country but many of them drive with a deathwish. Did the new highways improve road safety?

Had a chance to drive from Lithuanian border to Zakopane, the highway was impeccable. Felt truly jealous but also so happy for the fellow Poles.

I remember some 20 years ago Poland had the worst roads in Europe by far. It was a terrible drive with all the trucks, tractors and police collecting bribes on rural roads. Now roads are excellent. Unbelievable progress.

That little sliver of red around Krakow leads to a 20 min detour through the industrial district if you want to go East on the West-East highway below it coming from Warsaw.
Guess how I learned that after all the media were talking about how they finally opened the Krakow ringroad for Christmas

I envy alot of the european nations building motorways, best the UK can do is a ‘Best in Class A Road’ nowadays or nothing at all (In the case of routes like the A46 from M5 J9 -> Stratford-upon-Avon)

Man, i hate highways. They cut right through the countryside, and though it’s easier to travel, it’s becoming harder to get away from noise and cities. I think this and honestly city sprawl are a big mistake.
