I just went back and listened to Aliyev’s speech. It is 22 minutes long but this section is early on. It is saddening that the “journalists” of this tabloid tore his words out of context and put it as a headline here. I believe their intent was for people to react like many commenters are currently reacting here.
The man lights a fire under Russia and Putin’s ass for 22 minutes, but for whatever reason these journalists decide to take exactly this line out of context and use it here, while omiting everything else, the spicy parts out of the article…
He says (word by word) “the damage to the body of the plane proves that the initial claim of a bird strike, originating from I don’t know who precisely, is completely out of the picture (fake). Maybe, maybe when the plane took damage, was hit, the pilot would have thought it was a bird strike as nobody would have thought that our civilian plane would have been fired upon in a friendly country. It is saddening to see that some of russian organisations/institutions decided to push this claim. It is also unclear to why, unfortunate and saddening that other russian agencies put forward absurd claims like ‘passengers brought onboard gas tanks and it exploded’…”.
My point is, aliyev does not mean we are super duper friends. He means pilots would not have thought that they would be fired upon by russians as we have normal relations. Note that pilots themselves are ethnic russian azerbaijanis. God bless their souls. They saved half of the passengers. They are heros.
To the journalist of NovayaGazeta of certain nationality that intentionally wrote this article in this way: our two countries have their issues, but have some decency. Do not use this tragedy, do not twist it for your political bs.
