      These are protests against the government due to canopy collapse that killed 15 people on November 1st.

      The canopy collapsed due to the negligence during recent reconstruction, which is all tied to widespread corruption, arrogance and incompetence of the ruling structures.

      On December 31st, the judge overruled the request for the three main suspects to be incarcerated. All three are high ranking officials, or closely tied to the ruling Progressive party.

      Students are the main drive of these protests asking for the institutions to do their job and asking all documents and data related to the incident to be made publicly available as well as calling for the independent investigation and swift justice for people killed.

      Vucic yesterday stated that he does not understand people protesting, and stated that “the grieving period of 40 days is over, and they just want to ruin everyone’s celebration” and that “they decided to do it at 23:52 for the instagram likes”.

      Also, yesterday he had another interview where he mentioned that there are around 1000 of his loyalists, that are mainly pro-Russian and that they even sweared on blood to fight the “colored revolution” and “yellow scum”(that is derogatory term for opposition parties in Serbia). He basically called for civil war. Previously he stated that it is normal for people to drive through protesters.

      Yesterday, there were merely couple of thousands people at NYE party, while the protests were massive. Vucic counted on the holidays, for people to let go off this and forget about it until orthodox Christmas (January 7th). It seems that this is not settling, and that he will have a difficult new year ahead. I hope he resigns finally, without bloodshed.

      Although many people in the comments seem to dispute it.

      Edit: The commenters claim that the number of students a d citizens that attended the protests is at least 30k and likely more while the number of people that attended the city organized concert on Knez Mihajlova square was far lower than the 5k-6k AJS reported
