Good for them, no place in Europe for religious freaks.

Western journalism failed the victims and society as a whole in the aftermath of the attack. Every newspaper should have published those cartoons, just like they should have published the cartoons of Jyllands Posten in 2006.

There was a clear message to be sent that personal offense doesn’t supersede journalistic freedom.

Being part of a liberal, pluralistic society means that one needs to be able to endure criticism of one’s opinions and beliefs. Anyone who simply cannot commit to this may find their fortune elsewhere.

Having this on every front page of every newspaper would’ve made a real difference. Instead, we had a deluge of articles boiling down to: “Of course these murders were terribly wrong, but we should also not be mean to people.”

[This Onion classic from 2012 highlights the issue perfectly.](https://theonion.com/no-one-murdered-because-of-this-image-1819573893/) (NSFW) Sure, some people may find this offensive, but, [as Stephen Fry so eloquently said](https://youtu.be/NzdpxKqEUAw): “Well, so fucking what!?”

    3. An absolutely shitty garbage magazine, but killing the staff went a bit too far. It’s like if 4Chan shitposters started a printed publication.
