I dont understand how anyone can look at the price and say that this makes any sense. 1.7€ billion for 44 tanks and 66 modernisations? Thats over 15 mil per vehicle and most of those arent even new vehicles. Then they get destroyed by a 500€ mine or drone. Or an artillery shell, or rpg, or a missile etc.
Tanks are good but they arent good enough to justify prices like that, especially now when battlefields are full of weapons that can easily destroy them.
The Russian military bloggers are currently furious about Ukraine’s counter offensive in Kursk, which has successfully taken new towns over the last few days.
You know what the initial assaults were composed of?
Tanks (Leo2/Abrams) and IFVs, backed up by artillery and drones, and shielded by heavy EW systems.
Tanks are extremely valuable battlefield resources when used properly in conjunction with other systems.
Pretty nice they opt for an european tank, specialy in this moment
Has Sweden abandoned it’s domestic tank production? I recall they had some moderate success with things like the STRV 103.

Sweden will thus now upgrade all of their remaining 110 Strv 122 (Leopard 2A5-level) after 10 were donated to Ukraine. There was an upgrade contract in late [2023](https://www.edrmagazine.eu/sweden-fmv-signs-contract-for-extensive-upgrade-of-stridsvagn-122) for 44 to Strv 123A (“2A8 parity”) and as now reported, for 66 more upgrades.
Add 44 new-build tanks (Strv 123B) and Sweden will eventually have 154 Leopard 2A8-level tanks.
