Who will subsidize their social-security? Denmark gives them 570M a year.

Wasn’t the US responsible for essentially saving Greenland during WWII and the Cold War? As I understand it Denmark only held onto it in name only and lots of guys in Greenland really hate the Danish control over their country, especially with the cost of goods being as high as they are.
People might not necessarily want a Trump sanctioned acquisition, but many sure as heck don’t want Denmark controlling all their trade either and want to be responsible for their own country!

With how little the population is there, it wouldn’t really take much for the US to make every single resident a multi millionaire. How many millions would it take for you to ok selling your country? Shit give me 3 million dollars and I will go buy a retirement home somewhere in Southern Europe right now and forget all about my country!

If you can get past the Trump and anti-Trump rhetoric, I think it’s likely to some degree that all this buzz will give a boost to the Greenland independence movement within Greenland. Whether that’s a temporary boost or pushes things towards more quickly seeking independence I don’t know.

Greenland and Canada should join the EU. Maybe cut Hungary off the other side.

I find it disappointing that no interviewee mentioned leaving Denmark but joining the EU

I never really understood the Greenlandic independence movement. They want to be independent of Denmark, but that means they’d lose the block grant and they’d just slide into mass poverty. So they’d just have to grant some country rights to their natural resources, but they don’t want to do that. And they also don’t want an American presence.
Do they want independence but also free money from Denmark and the ability to easily import everything from the EU?

My “hot take”.
Trump will use the Ukraine War to try to negotiate taking Greenland. IE – we will only end the war on terms favourable to Ukraine if Europe rewards us with Greenland.
