It’s not really a taboo, in fact I don’t even think that it is that big of a deal for most of the population but as with any other topic, some groups just shout harder and make it seem like a majority is against it.
I worked as a cashier in cactus on weekends during my studies and I can confirm that a lot of colleagues at the time were very much in favor to working on a Sunday given the pay premium.

It’s not a taboo. Some people want to pretend that it is. Hospitals, police, firefighters, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, etc. are at least partly working/open on Sundays.

It’s not taboo, not even unions are against it in principle. It’s just that it comes without changes to the collective agreements and will result that many employees will have no choice and will only receive the legal minimum as compensation
