this wont get far btw , Common defence is specifically outlawed in the Irish Constitution
>29.4. 9° The State shall not adopt a decision taken by the European Council to establish a common defence pursuant to Article 42 of the Treaty on European Union where that common defence would include the State”.

Should start with states who want to be involved. There won’t be consensus.

Shouldn’t a fiscal union precede a defense union?

I am immensely pleased with this news. Many shields joining together to form a wall.

We established two sets of legislation which evidently contributed to ruin Europes economy. The national and the EUs.
Now we are planning to set up a third level of defense planning, on top of national and NATO.
What can go wrong?

Very interesting! «Single market for defence». If all of EU bought the same type of hardware to their armies one would be able to reduce cost a lot.

Awesome. Decades after the French rejection, we have now made it to a Project Group. /s
We have to ramp up the speed and start with a coalition of willing states.

That would be nice, or it will be nice – unfortunately it probably won’t work the first time, but the basic idea behind it is strikingly simple. The EU/Europe complements each other with a common security policy component. If we were already at that point, we would simply send troops to Ukraine to support them and kick the Russians out. I have a dream.

What the EU needs is an indipendent quick reaction force, armed to the teeth, of 50-100k men, capable of indipendent action from nation states, answering only to the commission/parliament and to a chain of command dedicated to it.

Another one sizes fits none solution, where countries with perfectly functional armies must weaken them for a single shit army.

The EU needs to properly federalize already. With a more unified state the EU could become the worlds next superpower

Still think the defense union is a joke, (nato as well for that matter). The other superpowers stille has the benifit of having 1 nation army. Our problem with nato and this, is that we Are still 21 different militiaries, instead of “under the same rolf”. Which makes it complicated to agree on missions, operations, etc.
Unless I have misunderstood the union ofc. But the way it was explained to the danish People, it was still just an agreement of protecting each other if a foreign country attacks, and it relies on each individual countries militiary spendings instead of just EU tax fonded and 1 militiary. It’s time for EU to get a lot close than we Are.
