Correction: Ukraine has no chance against Russia without European and American money.

    2. Potatoe_expert on

Even if it may not be so, it doesn’t help Europe at all if Ukraine falls. If anything, Ukraine losing will allow Russia to get off the hook and it encourages them to pull these kinds of stunts again.

    3. You mean the military we gave you money and resources to make in order to help you in the war against russia?

    4. Not the first time I’ve rolled my eyes at his statements but they’re at war and playing the game with media is part of it. Hope there will be peace this year, even if it likely won’t last for long knowing Russia

    5. well most of europe is in NATO, and some NATO countries have nukes.

It is imperative for European security, independence and clean energy to further aid Ukraine.

Now that America is out of the equation, the ball is in our pitch.

The best investment for a prosperous European future would be contributing to the Ukrainian victory.

We have nothing to lose if we keep standing by them.

      I agree.

If Ukraine falls then Russia will use Ukrainians against us.

The Ukrainians who comprehensively know our systems, military structures, training and equipment AND are trained to use it and operate within it.

Make no mistake, this war is incredibly important and we must never let Ukraine fall.

Whilst Ukraine falling would be bad for Europe, we’d still be protected from Russian aggression by the Americans, Putin isn’t going to start a war with America. He probably also isn’t going to start an invasion of the core European powers, but without American support picking off bits of territory in Eastern Europe is somewhat plausible.

    9. I think an more appropriate headline would be: “Europe has no chance against Russia without accepting the loss of hundreds of thousand EU/UK citizens”.

Europe would win this alone but supporting Ukraine is the only way without accepting the loss of many many citizens. Of course Zelenskyy can’t tell it like this because it’s the non-spoken arrangement with the West that the loss of Ukrainians is a collateral they pay in return for our support. Nothing about this is fair but on the large scale of things there isn’t a better option for Ukraine and there isn’t a better option for Europe.

I believe that Poland alone would kick Russia’s ass.

    11. Ukraine is currently the biggest military drone factory in the world. We don’t want this production to shift towards Russia military, that is for sure.

    12. lucckyss on

Well he is the largest recipient of modern American weapons in Europe. So surely he must have more modern weapons than any other military in Europe except Russia. However, Russia is very unlikely to take Baltics or Poland back after this war. Let alone Europe as a whole

I disagree, but I‘d still rather want Ukraine as an ally in a confrontation with Russia. There’s no such thing as being too dominant and Ukrainian experiences could keep casualties down. And ideally I‘d like to avoid such a confrontation entirely by supporting Ukraine in whatever way is necessary to curb Russian imperialist ambitions for good. That’s a lot cheaper in all manner of currencies.

      No chance, without super Ukraine.

Three days to Warsaw, right? A week to Berlin. Three weeks to Paris. A month to London.

      OK, President Z.

    15. proficient_english on

That is an extreme UNO reverse if I’ve ever seen one.
But I get it, he needs the narrative to incentivise all EU countries populus to support Ukraine. I really hope they don’t fall.

    16. gnubeldignub on

Didn’t he mean the other way roun? Ukraine has no chance against Russia without Europe’s military?

    17. Somecrazycanuck on

Gotta stop publishing stuff like this, you’re giving Trump and Putin a woody.

    18. Scottishnorwegian on

It seems stupid to me that putin went after ukraine first and not Belarus. Given that the Russians thought they could take ukraine in what, days? Weeks? He mustn’t have known that nato would get involved. I don’t support him invading any country but wouldn’t it have been easier to invade Belarus? They are basically a Russian puppet, they haven’t got a big enough military to fight Russia’s and I don’t think anyone would defend them. There is a chance that nato would defend them for the sole reason that Poland and Lithuania don’t want anymore of Russia at their border. What do you think?
