Typical… the Independents simply don’t understand what forming a Government *means*.
They want to have their cake and eat it.

If you think Verona Murphy is going to put Lowry in his place, a month after he engineered her election to Ceann Comhairle, I have a house in Donegal to sell you.
Just another cute example of How Ireland Works.

So they want to be in goverment and be in opposition to question themselves? This is farcical

So we got about a day out of an agreement that gave a Healy Rae a ministry position before the other Healy Rae and Michael Lowry claimed that despite backing the programme for government they want to act as opposition and its down to Verona Murphy to sort it all out ?
I’m going back to bed.

It’s still better than the Americans, not by much, tho. 😔

I struggle to see how they would not be allowed to form a group.
We all know they are part of the Government, but technically as they hold no position in the Government and they aren’t actually part of it. Just because they would vote in line with the Government, does not preclude them from being their own technical group. The considerable precedence for this.

Did anyone else picture the Healy Rae’s throwing punches when they read the title of this ?

Needs more flipping a coin to decide who gets the top spots.

No way this government lasts 5 years if this is the crack they are up to less than a day after the programme for government was agreed.

Can we even call ourselves a democracy if we don’t allow Danny Healy Rae weekly speaking time in the Dáil to congratulate his brother on how good a job he is doing in Government?Â

If the independents are acting as a group how are they independent?

Absolutely on-form for persons who are only in the system for what they can get out of it. Jobbers with no ethical foundation whatsoever.

Looking forward to spending the next ~~5 years~~ however long this shitshow lasts laughing at the people who FF/FG because they’re ‘a safe pair of hands’, they wanted to stick it to the ~~woke radicals~~ centre left or some such shite. Anyone with an ounce of cop on knew that going in with the likes of the Healy Raes was going to quickly turn farcical.
At least we’ll get a couple of months/years of less cycle lanes, worse public transport, and plenty of pandering to every inane whim of the business and agriculture lobby though. Sure that’s the main thing.

Really disappointed Social Democrats and labour couldn’t have formed it.
I guess I understand why a growing party doesn’t want to be FGFF whipping boy but still, we’ve 5 years of this nonsense now.

What an absolute fucking farce.
A day hardly passes without our governing politicians showing themselves up as little more than pigs jostling with each other to get their snouts in the trough.
