Google search results have turned into shit anyways. 90% of times asking chatGPT is faster and more reliable

    2. Then the EU will bar Google from operating. They rarely screw around with this stuff.

    3. lets fine them a trilljoen gazilion. Or whatever russia also fined them

For those looking to stop using big tech crap that is flaunting EU law:

      * [Kagi](https://kagi.com) is US based and for pay, but they are not just talking the talk; it really is a premium experience. They do use google results, but have their own search stuff on top.

      * [Ecosia](https://ecosia.org) is a european company. It’s just a ‘front end’ for google searches right now but they are planning to make it a true stand-alone search engine.

So you forbid it because of non-compliance with the law. Case closed.

      I don’t use google anyways.

who even uses Google nowadays, when there’s chatGPT

I wonder if they obtained any assurances from Trump before proceeding with this.

Who would be the fact checker? Not sure why they’d be an authority on the truth

what type of orwellian nightmare is this

will the EU “fact check” google’s “fact checking”?

    10. Kevin_Jim on

Then ban them from the EU. Get out of here with this BA. Either comply with the law or you don’t get to partake in our market and the benefit of operating in the 2nd largest economy on the planet.

“Fact checks” will just be used to promote ministry of truth disinformation aligned with transatlanticists’ interests anyway. It’s meaningless.

For example: In Germany, literal Nazi propaganda lies (e.g. [the double genocide myth](https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/zuroff-israel-should-not-recognize-holodomor-as-genocide-578308 )) have recently been protected by law in an attempt to promote anti-Russian sentiments and “denying” such Nazi propaganda lies now carries potential prison terms similar to Holocaust denial. If the “fact checkers” will promote ahistorical disinformation like that as fact it will only reinforce literal Nazi propaganda lies while pretending to be about “fighting disinformation”.

I mean, nobody is forcing them to be here… right?

Few fines and they will either leave or comply.

    13. Stokkolm on

That sounds technically impossible. Fact checking the whole internet?

    14. toshocorp on

This is why they all donated to Trump in hope that he will protect them from the bad EU.

    15. CommanderZx2 on

Why should Google need to fact check search results? That is a ridiculous request.

    16. I’ve ditched Google many years ago, just because I don’t like to be conformist. Now, I’m testing Startpage, previously I used Duckduckgo.
