Germany’s leading source of electric power generation got a big boost in 2024, according to latest industry figures.

Regulators approved more than 2,400 new onshore wind turbines with a total output of around 14 gigawatts, a record high, said a new report from the German Wind Energy Association and VDMA Power Systems, the association for power plant engineering.

“This is a significant step in the right direction,” said Dennis Rendschmidt, VDMA’s managing director. He said the government must “maintain this momentum,” no matter the outcome of the February 23 federal election.

      >Despite AfD criticism

I think “The windmills of shame”, as Alice Weidel calls them, and their investors don’t care about what the AfD says.

    3. So Afd is against wind turbines and renewables in general? Why is that?

These expensive grifts can’t power a modern economy and it’s painfully obvious to everyone, no matter how much German politicians and blinkered public try to pretend. It’s just very expensive wishful thinking and this is true with or without AfD and is independent of a political system. It is simply a fact. Germany will never recover or matter in the future unless they go fully into nuclear energy or god descends from the heavens and turns Russia into a normal state. Since none of this will happen (Germans are too stubborn to admit they are wrong) we’ll get to see the country slowly but surely filter itself out of serious considerations on a global and even European scene. They’ll continue to swear that this green nonsense is working while everything around them collapses and their economy and industry die, and they’ll shun and shame everyone and everything that points out the obvious truth. That’s the German way. It doesn’t matter if it’s the AfD saying it, a theoretical communist party or just regular people. Germany is fundamentally over. They just CANNOT admit that they’ve made a terrible mistake.

How absurd this thing that the more wind power you install, the more it produces. How remarkable!
Meanwhile, on a purely informative note, at 11am today, 50 per cent of German electricity was produced by burning coal and gas, since wind power was running only at 9 per cent of the installed capacity.

AfD does not want decenralized energy, cause it is a means of oppression and control. if everyone would be autark in every way of living (utopia), noone could be controlled anymore.

What do they mean, “despite”..? They don’t have the kind of power. And it’s a large income source of many eastern German municipalities, no matter how hated windfarms may be.

Every time I see this type of news (wind or solar record numbers in Germany or other member state), I get all positive and go and check [https://app.electricitymaps.com/map/72h/hourly](https://app.electricitymaps.com/map/72h/hourly) expecting Germany to be in green and I see that despite have 40% of renewable at the time Ì write this, German carbon intensity of consumed electricity is still 6 times greater than a country like France.

But progress is progress, so well done and it’s all about correcting the trend 🙂

    9. So electricity bills went down, right? Right?
AfD are lunatics by the way

Huh, almost like they’re just Russia shills and don’t know anything about energy policy

    11. i_upvote_for_food on

That is because the majority in Germany ( roughly 80%!!) don´t care about the AFD!

Next thing you’ll tell me that climate is changing despite people denying it

    13. So now what AfF thinks is the main central issue? I think I saw this movie before but ok. Keep going.

Your average German dude here: Just fck the AfD, ok? Seriously, can these wankers just go back to their little “Stammtische”, mind their own freakin business, and leave the rest of us alone? Thanks. Much appreciated.

im really curios how they will replace the 30-50% of energy generated by regenerative sources

like that are some serious amount of nuclear, coal and gas plants that would hae to be built in a very short time…

    16. BubiBalboa on

I don’t think anything the AfD says or does has any influence on how much the wind is blowing. If anything their hot air is adding to the wind energy.

    17. Divine_Porpoise on

Try as they might, they can’t halt the wind by kicking and screaming.
