      > Berat (and Gjirokastra) are inscribed as rare examples of an architectural character typical of the Ottoman period. Located in central Albania, Berat bears witness to the coexistence of various religious and cultural communities down the centuries.

I visited Berat about 7 years ago or so. Beautiful place and almost empty since it was off-season. There was a local guide who I heard is a local legend who gave us a private tour for very cheap. Had the keys for all the churches etc.

One thing I always notice about Albania is that it’s full of rocks.

beautiful city! was there a couple of years ago with my bike. there are some great restaurants inside the castle. prices are cheap and the people are warm and welcoming. i recommend visiting the whole country. great for bike tours, offroad or asphalt.
