Could we not use Chat GPT?

We could even go for that pro version

My favourite is RTE’s HR manager is on 270k. More than the taoiseach and the director general of RTE.

eh, have they considered that 40 writers might explain why it’s so bad.

More seriously, there has to be an explanation for the 40 writers. Is it on a rotation systen? Are they a register of 40 freelancers who jump in with ideas and get paid when working? Are some of those 40 actually continuity people (this always seemed to be terrible on Fair City so not sure that’s an explanation either)?

Do you think maybe one of them could write a script where Gar wears something with short sleeves so he doesn’t constantly look like a kid with some form of OCD having to constantly roll his sleeves up?

I’ve never known anyone who has done a Fair City stint and then moved into film or proper TV writing.

Not saying it’s impossible, but never even known a friend of a friend to do it

Listen, you don’t make friends with salad.

And you don’t make a world famous, high art production like Fair City without 40 top shelf writers. These are the creme de la creme globally.

We’re just lucky they haven’t been poached by some other show, like Crossroads or El Dorado.

When you read about the Golden Age of TV, it can be assumed that it means Fair City, and only Fair City.

Good. The writers will not be taking home major money and most of them won’t be permanently employed. If they’re writing something that lots of people watch or that is creative, then great. That’s what a national broadcaster is supposed to do: make content for a domestic audience that fosters a domestic arts industry.

What annoys me is that RTÉ pays money to broadcast international shows like EastEnders that are available to all on another channel, an hour AFTER it is broadcast on that channel. Decisions like these, and of course this is by far the worst, are taken by people who are earning the real scandalous money.

There’s an awful lot of fat to be trimmed, but don’t start with the low-paid writers and technical staff. RTÉ should never have been getting into salary negotiations with “top talent” who are claiming they can get better money elsewhere. My licence fee isn’t there to make Tubridy et al feel better, if a commercial broadcaster can give them a pay rise, let them get out and make way for somebody younger and lower down the ladder. That’s how you create a conveyor belt of good talent, rather than blocking the place up with people who are considered Irish institutions or unsackable.

“Bela is bitten by a radioactive Irish wolfhound that has escaped from a secret laboratory in Dee Forbes’ old office where classified chemical agents were developed. Once transmitted, anyone infected becomes a zombie, incapable of expressing the full range of normal human emotions, forevermore wandering the street of Carrigstown loudly heard screaming for ‘barter accounts'”.

It might explain why Fair City feels all over the place at times.

Fair City doing the good work of proving the old saying, too many cooks spoil the broth. Job done. Shut it down.
