This is an absolute abomination and they will continue with this if there isn’t public uproar about it.

I mean, why not. The Irish public have already shown they’re more than happy to let them do what they want.

A great little country for stroke politics
Eventually FFG will begin to wonder what the point of an opposition is, when they are both government and opposition at the same time, as they have been playing at in recent years…
There is a reason they are playing at that as well. We are rapidly moving to a future where Democracy is curtailed across Europe and the West – and they are going to need the pretense of an opposition…

This arrangement is here to stay, I don’t particularly like or dislike it, it is what it is.
The independents are by definition independent and only loosely aligned in a speaking block, they all have their own opinions and concerns. On many issues they will agree with the government and others they will not. They should be entitled to have their views aired. In the same way that people who are totally opposed to the government should be allowed to air their views.
Dail speaking time is pretty much bread and circuses. All of the questions have to be approved in advance by the ceann comhairle.
If there is a point that any politician feels passionate about they should make detailed longform social media videos about it articulating their concerns. If relevant this will resonate with members of the public and invariably some sort of actions will be taken or at the very least discussed openly. It was stuff like this that got Ming elected in the first instance.
Sinn Féin and the Provos are yesterday’s news. The time of FFG and the Provos has come!
Temporary like the USC
Once I accepted the fact that individuals entered politics for only two reasons the less I am bothered by acts like the above.
1) Although the role of a TD is a demanding job, it gives the majority of them the opportunity to earn a significant salary and other remunerations that aren’t necessarily available to them outside of politics.
2) They’re narcissists that carve attention and importance.
