At this point not bad idea in my opinion to limit these Trump or Elon posts. Its getting old and tiresome fast. When he signs tariff then its news.

    2. blackveggie79 on

I think what he meant to say is “American businesses are in for tariffs on European products”

    3. CastelPlage on

Good. When he tariffs China, Mexico, Canada and EU he will spectacularly crash the US economy. It will be fucking hilarious to watch (whilst also appreciating that it will pull our economies down also).

    4. ChampionshipSalty333 on

EU should just ignore his demands and reciprocate with tariffs. It suck because it’s simply a loss of welfare but one-sided tariffs would basically mean the US is enriching itself and we’re paying for it

    5. Limesmack91 on

no worries, we’ll just pick up the trade from china, Canada and Mexico that the US is throwing away

    6. Turbulent-Carpet-127 on

Respond with our own tariffs and travel bans for us citizens.

    7. Oh look, the orange toddler is still playing around with the new word he learned a couple of months ago.

    8. AlpsSad1364 on

Hopefully this time the EU will reciprocate with meaningful tariffs and not just some “we’re so smart” signalling on blue jeans or whatever it was.

Too bad Reddit doesn’t have a word filter. Then I could simply set up the word “warn” there and would directly filter out 98% of all news about Trump and Putin.

    10. DunnoMouse on

Let him tariff everyone. Egg prices have already doubled.

    11. Here’s me hoping ASML has spent the last years eliminating all US elements in their design. Then the EU telling Donald: no ASML products, or products made on ASML machines may be delivered to the US….

    12. chris-za on

Let’s see how Elon likes it if the same tariffs are slapped onto Teslas and parts groom the US for Teslas made outside of the US.

    13. Kaeed_RN on

I Guess is time to stop letting big American corporations pay almost nothing in some European tax havens and have a unique tax that goes directly to the EU funds

    14. gadarnol on

Trump will create EU strategic autonomy.

France should extend its nuclear defence to the EU and assume the nuclear deterrence role of the US.

    15. Browsing reddit is gonna be exhausting for a while isn’t it

    16. nothing_pt on

well, I think more players can play that game.

The already downspiral in sales of president musk cars in europe will be worse.

    17. SmakenAvBajs on

Why does Sweden sell iron ore and Nederlands petroleum in dollars again?

      Let’s un-dollar ourselves.

Aside from tech software, what does the USA produce that Europe buys?

All my appliances are either from Germany or Asia.  Clothes, etc are not from the USA.

The only Americans things I have are an Apple phone and … can’t think of another one.

Whilst the phone and its software are things it would be near impossible to live without, that’s just one thing.

For European exports it’ll be a problem, maybe, but I fail to see how the US is suddenly going to start manufacturing things they don’t already manufacture sometime i the next 4 years. It’ll just Americans as much as it hurts anyone else.

    19. ISeeGrotesque on

He’s just making everything more expensive to his own people

    20. TheFrenchPerson on

Either he loses by not applying the tarrifs, therefore again lying to his base, or he does actually apply the tarrifs and the US economy crashes.

There’s probably a third way that I’m not thinking of, like blaming Kenya or some shit and somehow that having something to do with tarrifs

    21. KerfuffleAsimov on

It will fuck us all but here’s something funny.

So take Ireland. Ireland actually exports a lot of food and drink to the US but they also manufacture a lot of medical devices and pharmaceuticals. The medical industry is actually Irelands largest exported goods.

So if Trump does put a 10% or 20% tariff on trade with the EU, when Ireland exports medical devices and pharmaceuticals to the US this is actually going to increase Americans medical costs lmao. It probably won’t affect the medical/pharma companies in Ireland but it will damage the food and drink exports.

I know it’s already been established but he truly has no idea what tariffs are and it’s hilarious.

    22. Playful_Two_7596 on

Solution: free trade between EU, Canada, Mexico and China. Let the US live in their own economic bubble, and decline. Problem solved.

    23. hype_irion on

It’s **insane** that americans still think that with tariffs, the EU, Mexico, Canada, and china will be forced to pay extra money to the United States for the privillege of trading with them

    24. Hopeful_Hat_3532 on

      Dude is clueless.

While he’s also aiming at putting a 10% rate tariffs on China, a US enemy, but he’s greeting his allies (Canada, Mexico, Europe) with a higher tariff rate. wtf, asshole.

    25. will_dormer on

It was 60 pct for China now down to 10 pct… I might have figure out that tarrifs causes inflation

    26. moog500_nz on

Top US import last year from the EU was pharmaceuticals. Almost $100 billion. Let him tax the hell out of that and watch that healthcare system over there burn even further.

    27. Kobebeef9 on

EU will just do what they did last time, retaliate by hitting red states specifically.

    28. ElevatedTelescope on

I hope the decision makers will have balls and retaliate with the same. Say no to extortion and bullying.

    29. Sensual_Shroom on

Pushing the EU, Canada, Mexico and China over the same edge, what could possibly go wrong? BRICS countries in general will love the 100% tarifs as well.

    30. 0Tezorus0 on

Good to know that Russia, Iran and North Korea won’t be in for tariffs.

      What a traitor.

    31. Imperterritus0907 on

New cross-trade deals between EU + China Mexico + Canada incoming. I’m not underestimating the importance of the US in the Global economy, but surely between those 4 we can counterbalance. And quite ironically, it will increase Chinese influence in the West. The orange man clearly knows nothing about soft power.

    32. MoreCommoner on

Meanwhile, allies like Canada and Mexico are getting 25%. This guy is nuts.
