      ONE of Ireland’s most prolific petty criminals has clocked up her thousandth conviction after admitting a litany of offences.

      Serial public order nuisance and thief Jennifer Armstrong reached the astonishing crime milestone as she was jailed for her latest string of charges.

      She is believed to be the first offender in this country to amass more than a thousand convictions on her record.

      Garda Sergeant Derek Spain said Armstrong had 992 previous convictions. Judge Kelly remarked that this was already “almost a thousand convictions” and Armstrong would now be adding to that.

      Armstrong has had more than 100 arrest warrants issued for her and has spent nearly 30 years of her life in jail.

      Genuinely curious as to what this lady has cost the state over this prolific career.

      She is averaging a conviction every 18.6 days.

      Either she is real bad criminal or she is committing crime like a smoker smokes.

      Is there really any point in leaving her out of prison again?

      Surely we are the stage now where the state needs to just lock her up permanently.

      I know there are other commenters saying things like “throw away the key” and I get it, however…this situation is an indictment of the lack of joined up thinking between prison service and probation service post-release. 

      The individual in question is homeless and many of these offences are in relation to trespassing on homeless shelter properties.

      I wouldn’t be surprised if, having spent 30 years in prison in total, she was committing petty offences as a way to return to prison where at least she would be warm, fed, and off the streets. 

      A sad state of affairs.

      I was going to start the usual moan about criminals never getting convicted, but if she has spent 30 years of her life in prison then we can’t say the judges haven’t tried. But maybe now it’s time to try something else.

      That’s really sad. All her crimes are linked to addiction and homeless issues. She needs real community supports and mental healthcare not prison

      Ah bless, only seems like yesterday she was in the media for reaching the magic 500! Who knew what heights she would yet go on to achieve, she must be so proud.

      Likely undiagnosed ADHD / PMDD / autism issue as she is 50 and female.

      1,000 convictions makes me wonder at what point a Judge might regard her as requiring psychological intervention & incarceration based on that;

      the cost of the justice system, courts, solicitors and all must be astronomical.

      any chance in fixing the system and saving such cost?

      You automatically get a fine and penalty points for being 3km/h over the speed limit yet you can roam free with ONE THOUSAND CONVICTIONS!

      She should be taken into care. Anybody with more than 100 let alone 1000 criminal convictions is not able to take care of themselves in society.

      I caught her stealing from a shop where I worked years back, it was one of my first days. We kept her there til the gards came. My manager told me afterwards that the gards said she had a rock under her jacket that she was going to hit me with. The whole thing was confusing for me, didn’t understand why she didn’t or why the gards thought that

      Saw her plenty of times after that. If we saw her in the shop as she was coming in usually pointing back out would make her leave. Sometimes she’d just walk in and take a bottle and walk back out. Clearly not bothered about being caught

      Saw her in Temple Bar loads as well. Usually plastered and threatening people

      A gard told me once that her routine was to go to prison, get released, stay with her mother in Wexford and keep the head down, then a few months later she’d be back in Dublin doing the same stuff. I was told her mother died like 12 years ago maybe and then she really went off the rails without that buffer of the time with her

      I think she manages to get all these charges because she’ll just go on sprees of walking into shops, taking things, breaking things, threatening people, and then she’s done four or five shops before the gards get to her
