24 hours evacuation by NATO standards, like in Afghanistan?

    2. araujoms on

I’m glad to see them gone. It’s obvious that with Trump in power they will never be used for Europe’s defence. On the contrary, with his threats over Greenland they’re more likely to be used as an invasion force.

I just hope our leaders are smart enough to not pay him a cent. I’m curious about how the Danes feel about paying Danegeld, though.

    3. Difficult_Tooth_3663 on

Europe should stop buying weapons from the US. Europe can do that itself.

Just a few days into this … It’s going to be a long 4 years.

Honestly, and I know I am falling for Putin’s geopolitical strategy, but at a certain point Europe needs to be done with this and just get rid of the American military bases. It isnt 1960 anymore where USSR was a massive juggarnaught, and Europe was a fractured mess. Europe is more than capable of fucking Russia up and why should the rest of us help America fight China or whoever they will go to war with next? Fortress Europe. No expansionism but make it so any attacker pays dearly.

    6. butwhywedothis on

It’s good in hindsight. Europe should, must and immediately start developing its own army. Expedite UK’s return to EU.

We can no longer trust America and will no longer bear any blackmail from the yanks.

We would rather die on our feet fighting than live on our knees.

    7. tramp is not our ally, i really did hope we had some intelligence agencies that are more informed than people on reddit, yet…

    8. Like in every movie made, the sequel is starting to look like shit.

I’m happy about it, I wish we get rid of American military bases altogether. I don’t want bases from a fascist power in my country. De Gaulle was smart and did the right thing for France. It’s crazy to see America basically committing suicide as a global power though.

    10. Good, it’d be best if they just all leave. We’d be compelled to actually defend ourselves. I see no negatives, depending on Trump’s America is just asking to get disappointed.

      So a shakedown ?

Call the bluff. With current threat concerning Greenland, throw the US military out. They’re not allies anymore.

    12. illegalmorality on

He’s an idiot. We do get subsidies from our allies, in the form of business ventures and discounts on trade. We withdraw now, we lose all of those advantages and get treated like a non-ally, which is much more costly than anything new that would come out from this.

So how about them egg prices? Enjoying the cheap groceries? Lmao

    14. Emotional_Rip7181 on

Get rid of them all. The backstabbers are a 5th column in our midst.

    15. Adortion634 on

It’s fascinating how the opinions on US bases in Europe have drastically changed following Trump’s victory

    16. hydrOHxide on

      Lol.
We’re already subsidizing US bases on our territory.

    17. PanickyFool on

This makes a lot of sense. Europe is a army conflict, china is a naval conflict. Middle east does not matter to the USA anymore.

The USA needs to invest in it’s navy.

    18. OneAlexander on

I keep banging this drum, but half of those forces and bases also serve as logistical, transport, medical, refuelling, command, and SIGINT hubs for US operations in Africa, the Middle East, and going through Suez into Southwest Asia.

You take away American bases you take away America’s ability to cross the Atlantic and Mediterranean, which means taking away America’s ability to supply and support allies like Israel and Saudi Arabia, or to gain intelligence and influence events in places like Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iran.

Even Air Force One utilises European bases to securely cross the Atlantic into/over Africa, making visits by the President abroad much more difficult.

    19. lostinspacs on

Cutting troops probably makes sense. The US doesn’t need 100,000 troops in Europe anymore.

Demanding subsidies just seems like extortion.

    20. berejser on

Europe needs to increase its manufacturing capacity and it needs to do it yesterday. If we’re going to be forced to spend more on defence then that money should not go to US companies, it should go to European factories and into the pockets of European workers.

    21. Planeshift07 on

Europe survived plagues, invasions, colapse of empires, world wars. We will survive without the US.

That said, i realy prefer the US as a friend, but it takes 2 to for that.

    22. toolkitxx on

There was it again – ‘deterrent’. Has not deterred Russia from the attack in Ukraine and all those troops do is either having sig-ops mostly against European targets or services for their own troops, that transit to the Middle East. I am all for closing all those areas for good, because that will give the right signal to step things up in Europe by ourselves.

    23. levenspiel_s on

I hate the US presence in my country, so no complaints, but this moron is undoing what US has built over the years. He’s working for Putin. And Americans are celebrating.

    24. bowens44 on

With any luck at all Europe and the rest of the civilized world will tell trump to take a flying fuck at a rolling donut, a flying fuck at the moon.

    25. Obvious-Slip4728 on

We should do as Trump says and spend up to 5% of our national income to defence. We shouldn’t spend a penny of it in the US though. The goal should be not to appease Trump but to liberate us from the dependency on the US. The US is proving to be just a big a threat as Russia is.

    26. NutsyFlamingo on

US is $36Trillion in debt. This was happening Trump or not. No surprises for any of us. This Messenger is just a pain in the ass.

    27. elenorfighter on

We need a European army now. The USA under trump is more a threat than an allies .

    28. Cathal1954 on

I think that if he doesn’t stfu about Greenland, he may be asked to withdraw considerably more.

    29. Healthy_Coffee151 on

The politics of Europe have degraded it to a second meaningless power….time to wake up.

    30. Dave_Is_Useless on

Why would we subsidize a country that actively threatens us?

    31. Haunting_Weight_7248 on

Europe need a European Army. But politicians are too stupid to do it.

    32. GamerGuyAlly on

Just kick them out, they are acting like enemies anyway, why would we house American military whilst they are looking to invade

    33. It’s funny that European people(at least those sane one) all agree on being more united, even become federalisation. But then again, politicians.

We need it now more than ever. EU should start thinking as ONE country.

    34. wowlock_taylan on

”My owner Putin said I should do this” Orange felon.

US forces will be cut by way more than 20k if they decide to take Greenland.
