Honestly detaching Europe from us big tech wouldn’t be a bad end result

Edit. Other than that sweet tax revenue

He’s coming for us and people won’t wake up until it’s already happened. The Irish government are sleepwalking right into this. Hundreds of thousands of jobs will be lost. Michael Martin stood up in the Dail last week and said he “wants to protect the economic model”…..it’s precisely because of the economic model that has us in this precarious position you silly clown.

Who gives a fuck what he thinks. Are we going to be inundated with trump posts every time he has a brain fart.

    4. John_Smith_71 on

How dare any country have laws contrary to the United States.

    5. HighDeltaVee on

Just think, the US could have progressed the Global Tax Agreement process which has already delivered a 15% base rate that Ireland have implemented, agreed on how BEPS would work, and solved all those pesky tax issues.

Nope… pulled the US out of the whole process on his first day.

      Moron.

God he hasn’t even been in power a week yet 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

    7. We are a world-renowned tax haven for some of the worlds largest corporations.

It’s not going to last forever. The foot will drop at some point. I am amazed we have gotten away with it for so long.

Probably because of vast wealth being pumped into lobying by the US corporations.

Corporations run the US. Not some racist septuagenarian.

Well, he’s unlikely to blame Ireland —we’ve just spent the last few years rather embarrassingly grovelling while bending over backward to avoid ever collecting that cheque. However he pays no attention to any detail…

Our agencies however are on the headed note paper for a huge % of rulings to regulate US tech multinationals and our position in this is very weak, so we are going to be squeezed hard — it’s utterly naive to think that’s somehow not going to happen:

I think tbh there’s a significant possibility of a massive recession in the horizon locally and globally. The kinds of interventions he’s proposing are likely to cause shockwaves in international trade and he and his administration are not very economically literate or willing to listen to anyone who is.

He’s going to intervene in everything in the most crude ways.

All it will take is a major market panic and the we’ll have a massive global crisis.

I’d agree we’re stuck. Europe and many other places saw the US as a stable, friendly trade partner — but it’s going through a completely unhinged phase and there’s really no way that we’re going to be able to just unplug. The depth and complexity of interconnection makes that very unlikely. Our economies are deeply integrated.

Meanwhile Trump will try to implement policies that were discredited as far back as the publication of the Wealth of Nations in the late 1700s, never mind the 1930s!

There’s a fair possibility we are going to be dealing with a total mess over the next few years. We’ve built a way too much dependency on very narrow income streams.

Also when you deep dive into Corporation tax paid by Multinationals in this country the true figure is actually way less than 15%. Creative accounting, R&D tax right-offs etc means the real figure is way less.

    11. 1stltwill on

Can we please ban all Trump posts for the next 4 years? You know there will be more BS to come.

    12. winarama on

Instead of using phrases like “Trump blasts…” I think news outlets should be more accurate and use terms like “Trump whines…” or “Trumps throws a hissy fit…”.

    13. pixelburp on

Looks like Trump has learned nothing and gone back to his usual tactic: loud, ignorant blovating masking the fact he can’t do shit about how the EU does its business.

Here comes the Trade War I guess; fun.

_(I also wonder has he asked his brain trust if he can just drop US corpo tax to 0% and has been told No. His business acumen is pretty suspect_

A lot of things are connected. Why are we suddenly seeing stupid “buy Greenland” or Musk involving himself in UK and EU far right politics. It’s not for the people, it’s for the clowns who donated 1m to stand together at his inauguration. Even the one(s) who weren’t in shot like Tim Cook.

All the tech companies feel hamstrung by EU consumer, worker, privacy and electronics legislation and requirements. Amazon want to have even worse conditions in their warehouses. Apple don’t want to convert all their devices to usb c. Facebook and twitter don’t want to moderate content and don’t want to be liable.

Now the mask is off and they sucked the Cashel Blue flecked stubby nub of Trump’s cock to destablise the EU. They’ve no interest in Greenland, but it’s part of Denmark and Denmark is part of the EU so it’s a cheap way of sowing discord.

    15. Lister-RD-52169 on

Well, the EU did aggressively and spuriously re-write Irish law retrospectively, and were laughed out of court when it was challenged. They had to get the ECJ to issue one of its typical political rulings on a technicality to reverse it.

This was all orchestrated explicitly to attack US companies in Europe, and the commission should be ashamed at how they’ve steamrolled our laws. Trump ain’t wrong on this one. Ireland and Apple both agreed those taxes belonged to the United States, and the EU crowbarred it outrageously.

    16. healywylie on

Ireland collect that money and hide it in your mattress ASAP.

    17. Ricky_Slade_ on

Yes he’s mad that we actually regulate these companies versus letting them run riot
