If flush toilets had already been invented and widely-used by the 1500s, we’d almost definitely have period paintings since that era depicting the “oppressed” and “misunderstood” minions of Ivan the Terrible and his successors looting their way through their new but ill-gotten gains in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Caucasus and Central Asia.

Not just that, according to my grandmother (R.I.P.) they stole water faucets, toilets, and sinks when they were on their way to and from Germany (she was a young girl at the end of WWII)
